As a last resort you can drive a long screwdriver into it. It will give you leverage to twist.

Always oil the gasket. Ha

Zpac's screwdriver tip will work but that is an emergency, make a mess, last choice.

When reinstalling, oil the gasket and only tighten it hand tight.

The y make filter wrenches that go on a 3/8 wrench with extensions
Thats what I go to when I have no luck, and usually when I go to those, the filter gets crushed before it loosens

damn HAHAH ran into this quite recently.Penzoil 76/14 filter wrench is what worked for me.Def double check that cause it was 1/2 pulled from my tool box and 2/2 is for a motorcycle(or vice versa LoL).Very little clearance for the screwdriver, strap wrench,or pliers if you ask me.
