Hi, On Bob, MTX, i switched out the old alt with one I got here on the forum and now the bat light is out and it seems to be charging fine. The issue is that I feel like I have the tensioner/allen screw all the way up, and the belt isn't as tight as it should be. It's tight enough to run but it is not tight enough, I'm sure. It feel like the adjuster reached the top of it's turning range..What happens to the thing if you try to turn it even further?? Or is it possible that it just has never been turned further up than I found it and it is just really sticky/rusty/needing to be cranked on even harder to get the belt tighter???? Any help you have will relieve my worrying about it. The other thing aI thought is that maybe the pulley on the replacement has a very slightly smaller circumference?? It looks like the same diameter for sure, but are there different circumferences such that a smaller one would not let the mechanical tightening system work properly???
Soon,
T

Thanks, I think I reached that point. I just don't understand why this alt doesn't pull the belt the same. The other one had a full turn to go and was right tight, With this one, I'm "bottomed out" I'm pretty sure...and although the belt turn the alt and seems to be charging (the bat light was on with the other one and it is off now)...but you can see a little slop/unstable movement from the belt when you rev it and watch the belt looking down in the direction of the air compressor.

The screw should only turn, not go up or down. Did you loosen the pulley nut before turning the tensioner? You must do that first.

So...
1.Loosen tensioner bolt
2. adjust belt tension with 5mm allen
3.tighten tensioner bolt
****!

Good thing I;m paying more attention when I'M ACTUALLY DRIVING THE CAR....

Yep. There is a fair amount of adjustment in the tensioner too, should be enough to take up any slack with just a smaller alt pulley, IMO. And yes, the threads on the allen bolt could be rusted as well.
