I will be using a lighted 3 prong switch. I will be splicing into a ground wire, and the switch will be controlling it. (gen.3 sarc mod... tapping into the ground wire at the sarc brain in the trunk. The switch will disable the SARC mode)
So, the wire the switch is controlling is a ground wire. Is it even possible to have the light on the switch to work? Can I just run the middle prong to a power source? This is backwards to most switch hookups, no?

three prong switches can work with only 2 of the prongs hooked up. IIRC, you should use the outer 2. I had a 3 prong lighted switch hooked up to my starter as a **** switch hoping the light wouldn't light up... it did so my **** switch was ruined. I swapped it for a non lighted one. I only had the 2 outer prongs hooked up. I could have swapped the wires so the light would have been on when the switch was on but that looked bad too. it made it too obvious when people got in the car.

The typical three prong/two position lighted switch has T1 as 12V+, T2 as the light AND load, T3 as ground. T3 is only used as a ground for the light when there is power applied to T2.

So you will not get any light from the switch when switching the SARC sensor ground.

BUT.....

If you reverse the 12V+ and ground connections to the switch meaning T1 will be a source of the sensor ground (the side of the splice coming from the SARC module) and T2 being the return of the sensor ground (retuning to the module) and T3 being 12V+ I believe it will work as you wish.

The only bad thing is this will be the light will be on when the car is off unless you use a hot in run 12V+ power source. This can be obtained from the SARC module as well from the R/BK (red/black) wire from the same connector. Do not splice this wire but tap into it for the 12V+.

Thanks Paul. :salute:
1.What is the difference in "splicing" and "tapping in to", for the 12v source?

2.Can't I just use my cig. lighter as a 12v source? But you are saying that I NEED a source that is only hot when the ignition is on, right?

3.How do you know which prong on the switch is TI, T2, and T3?

The switch I have has 1,2,3 on it. Marked as ground 12V+ and light (light being the load)

Yes you need a switched 12V power source.

Splicing is you cut the wire and insert something in the circuit.

Tapping is you just combine the wires and add to one without any cutting involved.

Quite frankly if you gotta ask........ :jab:
