OK here is go's, bear with me if it seems like I am rambling........
I started having this problem in the spring........sometime it would be dead if I left it over the weekend untouched, then sometimes by the afternoon after work.....checked the battery...fine, checked the charging system....fine, checked for draw on the system....nothing. So I did notice that when the car is sitting and I attached a volt meter to the battery to check it out over a few hours it would continue to climb voltage wise until it would peak out at around 16V the drop off gradually........not always but sometimes. I replaced the battery and had no rpolems for a couple of months.........now it is back. totally unpredictable and not all the time. while running the volt gauge reads between 13.6 to 14V. Anyone have any clues....I am going to start checking gounds out now.....I have also swapped out the GEM module.
Last week I also noticed that while parked with the DRL's off with the ebrake and lights off that when my fans kick on so do my high beams......they turn off with the fans as well........you only notice this if the DRL's are off and the headlights........HELP

I had a very similar problem about a year ago and found that the alternator housing was cracked. Replaced alternator, haven't had any problems since.

I would disconnect the DRL module for now and see if the problem goes away. It is made by Lucas of England......

Interesting to see if it is the DRL for those with that on their cars.

Mine included.

You said you checked for draw on the system. I'm assuming you put a meter between the ground post, and its corresponding wire? I know how battery problems go, I got a leaky cell in one, so my trucks battery is now in the car. :)

You will lose the high beam indicator when you do this. You can jumper a couple of the connectors or get a DRL delete plug from any Taurus/Sable that does not have the DRLs.

Anyone know what wires I need to jump to get this to work...........All taurus and sables in Canada have DRL's so the jumper plug will be super hard to find........

I remember my Triumph TR-6 had Lucas everywhere of course, the horn was called a "clear ******" ha, ha, (true story), One day I turned on my flasher (hazard) lights and smoke started coming from the dash so I immediately turned them off and never turned them on again.

Here's the DRL plug. It would be easier to pull the fuse assuming the DRL module isn't shorted. Otherwise jumper pin 1 & 8.

Well I found the draw on mine, :woohoo:The radio unit in the trunk. Was about to change the Alt. but disconnected it and the draw stayed the same ( the oll 189k alt is still going strong!) started pulling fuses and plugs finley ended up in the trunk disconnected the RCU and the load dropped to nothing.:)

My car had the radio foot ball drawing too much off line power. Bought a used one and it was just as bad. Third time was the charm.

problem

Hey....checked everything out today......put the light on between the batt cable and batt.....light is on......pulled every fuse inside nothing changed.....pull on under hood fuses......light still stays on except when I pull the dist blk fuse. They only thing I could not get to is the small plug on the altenator to see if it is drawing power.....the light is not on full either and has a slight pulse to it.......think its the altenator?
