This just recently started after sucking then re-filling the tranny with Decron III, I'll go to put in 1st and it'll go as far up as it usually does and then when I go to release the clutch it'll physically move my shifter 1/2 way back to neutral and some times will grind because the shifter moved back and didnt select the gear fully.

Now what do you guys this could be? Could my rod shifter lickage itself be at fault, too loose and not going fully into gear? Internal damage or clutch almost ready to die signs? Because even when I try to hold it hard into 1st(will only do this in 1st every other gear is fine) it'll jolt my whole hand back and grind a little, so I just ram it and it works find for a couple more shifts.

I am just about to stop driving the car because of this I just thought maybe I could ride it through to save up enough to do the whole rebuild/Quaife all at once instead of fixing just one thing that is getting annoying now.

BTW for some information for yo guys to help more its a 3.2L swap MTX, driveline is a tad over 184K, I beleive all orginal too except for SHO Nut TOB and pilot bearing from my CenterForce SHO with 24K on it, recently glazed on a motor seize as well, I know it needs a clutch because it grabs way up high but like I said above if only I can get a month or 2 on it to do the right way.

I'm definitely not an expert, but I'd stop driving the car. Every time it grinds you're getting closer to a destroyed tranny, and last time I checked, they don't sell new trannies at Autozone..

Alright guys my MM are shot so i'm going this route with tranny mounts as well to see how things improve.

And chris I did have Sychromesh a few thousand miles ago till it slowly leaked out and was replaced with me filling it up again with Mecron(refilling with Sychromesh gets expensive :) ). My current VSS has a leak of about a quart every 1500-2000miles I have still been trying to find the no longer made by Ford VSS hardware with retaining washers that even Fred tried to find but gave me the same news that I discovered that there discontinued.

So my search continues for a decent low miles case with VSS intact and its hardware... squint

Thanks again guys for the help i'll be posting again once I get the mounts installed and see if the problem resolves itself.

No he said he puts the shifter where 1st gear SHOULD be but when he releases the clutch it gets kicked back to neutral. He didn't state if he could actually get it to engage 1st gear. If it gets kicked into neutral while releasing the clutch pedal it's not enagaged in 1st. Kinda strange how the MM's would cause this condition right after a tranny flush and fill...

1st gear blocking ring; what engages and holds the gear in place!

New fluid can cause problems on worn items and that, you must be experiencing!

Edien, if things don't work out by replacing the MM's then I would be inclined to say it's a blocking ring issue.

2 things to note though, the more you make it grind, the more damage it does. Don't force it into gear. You can cause damage to the shifter and over extend your synchros. Over extend the synchros and the dogs pop out and fall into the tranny. Know what happens when the hardened metal of the dogs gets caught in the gears? Something akin to this:

eek! EUW! Why did you have to post such tasteless carnage!?!?! You're SICK! throwup

Just kidding.

Sounds like motor mounts, but I think there would be lots of vibration too. Does it vibrate out of place? If not, it sounds like the blocking rings.

Just go for the rebuild with the quaife. That's what I'm waiting for. thumb

I have the money for a full rebuild minus the $1200 for a Quaife which I would LOVE to do and not waste money on double labor cost, but its just a money issue.

It doesnt grind Beth unless I try get it back in gear while it got kicked out, so what I do is put it in a another gear and then it just slides in fine with no noises. Only signs I see of bad MM is my shiney spots on my manifold, and tranny mount with 184K and MTX as well.

If I also get a grinding in any gear and when I apply pressure to the clutch pedal up with my foot it goes away? Its like a slight grind/buzz depending on the speed? Could be a serverly worn clutch touching something metal and killing my Fidanza or something like a pilot bearing?
