The man doing all the heavy lifting appreciate what you're doing for all of us and the community, about damn time someone even considers doing something for our platform, we should all sign a petition and send it to a bunch of performance company's and tell them we want part to be made for our platforms, the SHO and explorer sports.

LOL, who knows. Crowdsourcing this sort of thing may be a viable way to get us some parts made going forward.

I know there is some desire for those of us in the car-modding world to "be first" and drop a product ahead of the masses. I wrestled with this initially. I wanted to be "the guy" who brought a new product to market and get that "pat on the back", but then rethought that mindset. The only reason I would want that is for pretty selfish reasons and, tbh, without additional voices, would likely not happen anyway. So nobody wins in that scenario. It's not an issue with more popular platforms as parts for mustangs and hellcats will always be brought to market, but those platforms with a smaller following, I think, take a bit more effort to try and get parts for...

Would be cool if this works out...

Excatly, understand what you're saying, but from this point like you said maybe a crowdsourcing would be a viable way to show alot of these company's that we would like aftermarket parts made for our platforms, there's plenty of of SHOs and Sports out there to the point that making a part would be a slight inconvenience to the manufacturer, but in return they'd more than make enough of their money back from people like all of us .

As a longtime SHO owner I would like to see if this is true. Historically this platform has not had the numbers to move the needle for non micro niche players to enter. If this can cross over to mustang and/or f150 ecoboosts then you have something. We always had to pony up minimal orders with $ to even get a look.

Unfortunately manufacturers don't even bat an eye at 100 customers trying to crowd source, because often you're looking at hundreds of thousands of dollars in testing, jigs, equipment, and material to make a repeatable process, and unless everyone ponies up before production even begins (which we've tried with other companies and no one will commit), they end up with an even fewer number of people that are willing to actually buy when the time comes.

I have a lot of contacts in the industry, so I'm always listening to see what people are wanting, but it takes a lot more than commitment to get parts out the door.

I worked with another company on a radiator and rear toe link upgrades for the SHO, and he got all the CAD files together, ordered stock parts to compare to, and when he came time to say go he changed his mind and needed a 500 item pre-sale ON EACH before he would invest anymore more money. Unfortunately there just isn't that much interest in pushing the platform in that regard.

Not so. The SHO modding community is very very small. They wont be able to just make the clutches because that's only one part of the problem. They will have to conduct R&D on the whole package. Tooling, prototyping and product verification is very expensive and time consuming. Unless they see a market that will initially sell 500+ kits its not worth the effort because the ROI isn't there. There's a target amount of profit margin and market share that has be achieved to be profitable. With small communities like the SHO there has to be a very large demand for an item else the cost to the consumer will be far more than anyone will be willing to pay.

This and the post above is exactly what I have experienced and observed over decades. The rare exception is a member who knows a guy, a member is a guy, a company has this stuff ready to mix and match already in their supply chain, and how likely this needs testing (offroad use only) to try and avoid legal pitfalls vs minimal shekles for the effort.

So many naysayers....lol...

I'm 100% aware of all of this, always have been. I've got no delusions as to the process that goes into bringing a new product to market. And you think the SHO community is small? You should see how small the XSport community is. The only thing we've really got going for us is the sheer number of platforms and vehicles that share this particular transmission. Coupled with the fact that, for the most part, they've already got a foundation of available OEM parts that may be used to build upon. These all work to our advantage in this particular case.

But closed mouths don't get fed, so worst case scenario is they tell us no...no harm no foul.

I will say though that they've gone further than most companies do...with the scripted "Thank you for the interest, don't call us, we'll call you" type response.

As mentioned, was worth a shot. And having you guys all chime in only adds to the credibility.

NO no no...not naysaying. :) Just trying to explain to another member how these business ventures work. If you can convince Raybestos to see a potential market and get them to make the investment I'm standing in your corner with ya!!:cheers:

It’s kind of crazy how the Explorer ST already has more aftermarket parts and big names backing them up compared to the SHO & Sport.

This is what gives our cars sleeper status, nobody sees it coming!

Yeah, the ST has a completely new engine and drivetrain arrangement. It's so much better. Longitudinal 3.0 twin turbo with a 10R60 transmission, and RWD bias in the AWD, and, as far as I know, no PTU...

Might be to late for my own build, but certainly would be interesting to see the outcome on this.

Who knows, maybe I'll be able to make use of the proposed / potential upgrades down the road?
