I have another post going Wild Electrical Malfunctions and am stumped but have a new, maybe simpler clue.

Have load tested battery, replaced weak alternator with Motorcraft reman and new voltage regulator, checked grounds and wiring and so far do not see frayed wire etc.

Start car and drive to supermarket and all is well. Come and car starts right and idles fine. Step on brake pedal, growl from under hood, engine bogs down. ABS light turns on. Let up on brake and engine resumes normal idle. Repeat several times. Turn off car and restart and ABS light is off and car goes home without any problems.

Still waiting for factory service manual but from what I can learn, there is a brake pedal position switch that grounds the ABS pump and turns it on during ABS braking, Could I have a bad pump or ABS control module that is dawing a lot of current when this switch is activated?

I am waiting for this to happen again and when it does I will remove the 30 amp fuse for the ABS and see if the symptoms go away.

When driving and it is acting up, when I touch the brake pedal, I get and engine hiccup, flashing climate control display and the tranny downshifts. When I let up, it drives fine.

If anyone has any ideas, As Ross Perot said, I'm all ears.

Ive actually run into many reman ford alternators with the volt regs on them that were bad when bought.

Been away and had other things to do but finally replaced the broken front engine mount and got the car running again. Well, to date, I have replaced the ECM with a used unit, replaced the alternator with Motorcraft reman, load tested the battery - good, checked the grounds AND now replaced the positive and negative battery cables. This will jinx it for sure, but so far it's running like it used to. Now its a matter of driving it as much as possible to see how it goes. Did not find any broken or frayed wires, battery cables look great on the outside but who knows.

Oh, and SHOYAY, I agree and still suspect a voltage proglem so I'm going to be checking on a regular basis even when its running well.

Here is similar issue. Antilock light came on couple of weeks ago. Haven't driven any until today. Took a 45 min, trip, started home and alt. light comes on. Can idle up fast and it goes out. Driving home in 2nd(auto) and not running or shifting right. Engine coolant light comes on. Engine heat normal. Now cannot run engine fast enough to put out alt. light. Then alt. light goes out. Make it home, running weak, backing into garage, engine dies and battery is dead.
Batt. has charged up, alt. light does not come on but battery not charging. (This is a rebuilt alternator approx two yrs old) Antilock light still on. Any ideas??
