I just got my 92' SHO out from under its cover today. Its been sitting for the last 9 months while i was overseas. I jumped the battery and let the car idle for about an hour to get the battery charged a little. After i turned it off and let it sit for 15-20 minutes i tried to start it again on its own power but the lights were really dim so i tried to jump it again and this time the car wouldn't even turn over at all but all the accessories work fine. any ideas what the problem could be? starter or alternator? the battery was brand new last time i had the car out and its a pretty good one so i don't think its that. also when i first popped the hood before i started it the first time a mouse had built a nest on my intake runners and started to chew away at some wires but it dosen't look like he ate through any of them. the first time i had it started i was messing with the stereo while it was idleing and when the bass would hit from the subs the RPMS would drop on the tach. that never happened before in the last 3 years. so that led me to believe that the battery wasn't charging. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks alot!!

Sean- 92' silver with 57k

i would guess its the battery. idling doesnt do much for charging, you have to drive it or at least hold the rpm's at 3000. jump start it, drive it around for awhile and hopefully it will charge up for ya

Sounds like your battery is ka-put. Either that, or your alt. is no longer holding a charge. I would remove both items and bring them to your local Autozone or equivalent and have them bench tested. There is usually no cost for the service.

Check every wire under the hood if you had a mouse nest. Your car may start now, but I can tell you horror stories about rodents and cars.
That's how electrical gremlins are born.

Good luck.

The alt wasn't designed to recharge a dead batt. That is a quick way to **** your voltage reg insde the alt. Also if you batt was drained that far down it probably needs replaced, charge it and have it tested. I would imagine when you started the car the alt was hummin a tune trying to charge that batt. Also the sho as well as any car should't be started with the head lamps on,, it needs all the cranking power it can get. BTW~ I would have the alt tested since you'll have the batt out wouldn't want you to **** a new batt if you have to replace it cause your alt is weak as well.
