Hi check the output on your alterantor at the battery terminals. Probably putting out to much voltage. Make shure the car is running when you test it all you need is a volt meter. Andrew

x2 on the voltage regulator.

Can be bought new for less than $50, and is 4 T-20 torx screws to remove/replace. It takes all of two minutes to change when you have the alternator out.

get rid of the radar detector too, go race on a track if you want to speed.

Yes. Electrical stuff can have intermittent failures. It may also be the brushes, which are screwed-to the back of the voltage regulator. Replacing the voltage regulator replaces the brushes.

Simple to follow 93MTX alt directions.

Remove battery:
-disconnect cables (negative first)
-back off hold down nuts
-swing hold down out of the way
-lift battery out, set aside

Disconnect Alternator:
-Pull out plug
-Remove power lead (usually a 10 or 11 mm socket)

Detatch alternator:
-Remove the (probably 15mm) bolt from the bottom, rear.
-Remove the (probably 13mm) bolt from the upper
-Loosen and remove (if it'll clear the battery tray) the long through bolt at the bottom, front
-Wiggle alternator from vehicle.

It's actually very easy to replace.

before you install the new alternator, you should try simply cleaning the battery terminals.
