Just thought I would introduce myself. Just purchased a 2010 SHO non-pp but with all other options a few weeks ago with only 35K miles on it. Previous owner took the time to put a Borla Exhaust, Airaid CAI, and crossed drilled and slotted rotors. Unsure if the pads are original, but would assume if he changed out the rotors he would have changed the pads as well.

Glad to be part of the group! There has been a SHO in my family since 1989, just carrying on the tradition :) SHO

Welcome to the SHO community, nice ride you've picked up :thumb: Bet it sounds pretty good too! No tune? More on the SHO history too, please ...

Lets see... according to the Carfax... the car was purchased from Freedom Ford in Norfolk, VA in October of 2009 and traded in May of 2012 with only 7,619 miles. Appears to have been someones weekend driver. Then someone purchased it from Purvis Ford in Fredericksburg, VA July of 2012 in which it was traded in again December of 2014 to Manassas Imports in Manassas, VA with 35K miles, which is where I picked it up in January of this year.

NONE of the TSB work was completed according to my service rep at Ted Britt Chantilly. :-/

Car seems to have been well maintained however I have noticed a few things. The windshield has been replaced and I am currently working with the company that dropped the new glass in. The first windshield they put in it creaked really bad, then they cracked the second windshield during installation, so I am waiting for them to get another one in stock so they can replace it a third time.

The tires are the original tires, so they are about 5 years old with some dry rot but not too terrible. It needed an alignment because the front TOE was out a bit, and the tires needed to be re-balanced. Since then it drives straight and smooth.

The driver side window is not original to the car.

There is a slight pulsating humm between 55mph and 65mph which did not go away after the alignment and re-balance of the tires. Doesn't seem to be a wheel bearing...maybe the rotors since I can't confirm the quality or tire noise from age?

There are no tool marks on any of the shrouds, screws, or nuts. My body guy said all the paint appears to be original, and no accidents reported on the Carfax report so it APPEARS that either it has not been in accident or if it was they did a heck of job putting it back together. I am inclined to think it hasn't been in anything major.

The Borla exhaust is nice but has a nasty drone around 2500rpm's especially under load, hear that a tune will help with this?

And finally my 3 1/2 year old son really REALLY likes the "fast" button

Next stop barring any repairs or maintenance that pops up over the next few months will be working on getting a tune on her. Not sure which tune in particular but everyone here seems to think highly of the Livernois Motorsports tune. Which if I do a tune, it will be based on 93 octane since that it EVERYWHERE where I live, plus I might as well get the 3bar map, plugs, and thermostat...

Oh... and anyone in VA looking to get custom plates that say "TT SHO" your outta luck :p

Great looking car. Best of luck with it.

That humm you're getting while driving, I'm willing to bet it's the tires. Thought my SHO road smooth until I replaced the dry rotted ones. Night and day difference.

  • x2 on the tires. OEM tires are OK, but if they are Michelin all-seasons & cracked, budget new ones in (Continental DWS, General GMAX, Pirelli Cinturato, etc.) Plus tie rod links tend to wear out, so watch out for that. Have it looked at closely next time the SHO's up on the rack.
  • Windshield - do you have rain sensing wipers? Make sure they put the right glass AND OEM glass put in, not aftermarket.
  • The drone is a common problem with aftermarket exhausts especially. Has any other change been made such as removal of the third cat/installation of xpipe? Usually best to leave the 3rd cat in place. You can tune out the drone with a custom resonator.
  • Can't go wrong with LME or Unleashed for a tune etc. Others: Erick at LET is an up & coming tuner for the SHO, a couple of folks have had success with TuningByJames.
  • The SHOs I had had "SHO" imprinted on the bumper, SO THERE :D Wish they had thought of something similar for the Gen 4 ...
  • and NOTHING like putting a grin on a kid's face with the FAST button :thumb:

Already budgeted new tires, but my current ones are at 7/32 all the way around.. thinking this thing has been babied a bit. Although doesn't help if they are just going to rot off before they wear out of tread

It does have rain sensing wipers and auto high beams so the windshield is not cheap. However, the installer wants to use XYG glass which is the cheap crap from China. Since the dealership paid to have it installed before I purchased it I am working with him to see what the difference in price would be for OEM... not quite sure how to approach it..

I have not had a chance yet to get up under it to see how extensive the exhaust work is in totality... the seal my hydraulic jack let loose recently so I need to get another one.

Additionally where I live there is no emissions testing YET. Although I am not sure if the 4gen SHO's rely on the back pressure the cats provide.. or how prone these engines are to overboost from lack of pressure.

That would have been nice to get the SHO imprint on the gen 4 SHO's but I do like the modest badges it does have.

My dry rotted tires had more than 50% tread, from the tire guys measurements. He looked at me and said they're decent. I pointed out the dry rot and told him of the sideways at 70 on the freeway and he said let's roll.

Doesn't make sense you have to put up with cheap glass. If they have trouble installing, you will likely have trouble in-use. Worth the difference to go OEM, every time.

If you wanted, you could get '13+ fender badges that say SHO on them. Another popular mod is to actually remove badging from the trunk area, leaving nothing, or removing at last the ECOBOOST.

welcome as well. have borla catback & got no drone at all. closest sound to a v-8. love it. can't believe got 5yr out of oem tires, both the goodyears like i had & michelins were crap. mine last 23k & if road got wet slide all over the place. your 3 choices of tires are dead on, i went with conti dws. i've got slotted ebc rotors w/red pads. i'd bet if previous owner did rotors the most expensive part would have done pads as well. like manu said '13 sho badge is cheap & easy upgrade most of us have done. but unlike lots have not debadged instead badged & decalled her up, as mine is now garage queen that is a show car. soon to have an lme tune.

Jeez, I just looked at tire pricing. They're not giving them away! Looks like minimum $1,000. That was at Discount Tire for Pirelli P Zero. Probably a decent tire, you think? This is for the 19" non-pp SHO

Continental DWS, Pirelli Cinturato P7, and General GMax are what most people buy in the all-season category as replacements. Check out the reviews on tirerack.com.

I am one of those guys who likes to keep the outside stock for the most part, not really wanting to change much about the outside appearance. However, if there is a decent way to remove the ECOBOOST section of the rear badge, I would like to do that. I only worry as its 5 years old having sunburn on the paint that would leave a ghosting of the ecoboost which would just drive me nuts.

Thanks everyone for the support!!

You shouldn't have any trouble with faded paint from debadging. Although I have not debadged mine yet, I have debadged a few other vehicles of mine...all with at least 5 years of being in the elements and there were no issues. Just have your Goo Gone in hand and get ready to give your scrubbing arm a workout!
