Okay, I am dying here. Was up AAALLLL night getting the turbo, aka SHOspeed Project, up and running. Dropped the tranny, installed new cryo'd internals, new sway bar bushings, new strut rod bushings, oil change, radiator, etc. Got everything buttoned up and went to start it, but nothing. No power. Seems my bro crossed some wires on the solenoid. It was 230 am, so I just headed to bed. Got up, swapped the wires, get in starts up first hit. Sounds good, for about 3 seconds, then dies. I do this three times, same outcome.

Here are my codes. 524, low speed fuel pump, open circuit failure between battery and ECA; 542, fuel pump circuit open connection - ECA to motor ground. I am clueless when it comes to the electrical aspect of these things. Any ideas? I am SOOOO wanting to get her going soon. THank thank thank you guys.

Tim,
I have had the exact same problem. Hate to say it, but you fried your fuel pump. I replaced mine on my plus and it fired right up. Hope this helps. Can't wait to see that car again.

I'm not so sure that the fuel pump is dead. It is just an electrical motor and is happy running in reverse too. Tim, when the fuel pump primes when turning the igntion key to ON, does it sounds healthy? The 524 is probably more an indication of a problem with the ICM above the radiator.

I will check it out Scott. My head is much clearer now than this morning at 2! I have an uneasy feeling that something may have got left in my IC tubing!! I will give an update shortly.

I certainly hope you are right Scott. I just found that I burned up an older fuel pump when I crossed a wire on the solenoid. Just proves that taking your time is the best idea.

same thing happened to me when we put the soopa charger on.

The pump wouldn't engage on turn key.

Tony raddled the ICM and walla it worked.

I wish all SHO Gremlin fixes were so easy.

Well, it started fine, it just died soon after. I just looked up some old pics I had though, and it seems there are still some wiring swaps to be done. I am off to do that, so see you soon.

If the fuel pump sounds fine for the first few seconds of prime then try grounding the fuel test pin in the EEC-IV test connector and let the fuel pump run for several minutes and note if it starts to change noise when doing that. My fuel pump sounded ok during prime, but running it continuously with the grounded test pin changed the sound after a few minutes. Replace fuel pump, problem solved.

Tim this may seem really obvious, but is the IRCM bolted down tightly with a good ground? You would have had to have removed this in order to replace the radiator. That's why I ask.

Additionally, it's plug bolts in. Make sure that it is indeed bolted in. You will get these exact symptoms otherwise.

Good luck sir... check your emails when you get a chance.

As far as the fuel pump being happy going in reverse... maybe for a few seconds, but not for long. Fuel is the pumps lubricant and coolant. If you are running it in reverse it has neither. It won't last long.

All is well in turbo land!! I looked at some old pics I had of the engine bay (fortunately they were very high definition) and found out my wiring problem. I am not even sure what the wires go to, as they are unique to this turbo installation. I did learn a bit about the car I did not know as a result of removing the trans and such.

It sure is nice to haev all 5 forward gears again!!
