The heater hose that goes into the firewall ruptured the other day and I lost alot of coolant. I replaced the heater hose, ECT sensor, and thermostat. Immediately after this incident I was and still am getting steam through the defrost indicating a problem with the heater core.

Could something like my heater hose rupture/loss of coolant or air in the system or anything make me show this symptom of heater core failure or was it a coincidence?

Maybe some coolant slipped into the firewall holes where your hoses are (when your hose broke).

Id wait for a week or 2 , if it goes away , or at least diminish. If not , time to remove the dash....talk about coincidence....

if you need to replace the heater core i would recommend using a dremmel and cutting through the firewall and then use the piece that you cut and make a custom flap. i havent had to on my 94 sho but i did it on my 86 mustanggt and my 88 turbocoupe, its alot easier than yanking and possibly damaging your dash.

Urlacher is right....for non FWD cars. I don't think there is room to pull the Heater Core out the firewall on a SHO.

I can't recommend taking it out the firewall as I have never tried it.

I have taken the heater core out by removing the dash from a gen1. I did it in one afternoon...with no instructions. Just keep taking stuff apart and keep several ziplock baggies handy for nust and bolts. It is an intimidating job once you look at the "how to remove your dash" thread, but it's not as bad as it looks. Either that or it's been so long that I have blocked out all the bad memories.

It's not all that bad...just don't plan on being done in an hour.
