Ok, in my other thread I described how my car will just die for no apparent reason (Always in stop & go traffic) and almost never on the highway. The longer I let the car sit the longer it will drive again. It will always start but the sputter like it's out of gas. Let it sit for an hour and it will drive again for long distances. Just did the 60k w/out the thermostat replacement (did that a couple of years ago -- 20k miles ago). Does it sound like my fuel pump? What's a good fuel pump I can get at O'Reilly's?

Your symptoms sound similar to what I had prior to replacing the pump. Mine never died but would have problems restarting after 15-20 minutes of driving. Long wait would take care of the issue. Had a mechanic put a new pump in and problems went away. Got my pump, Walbro 190lph, from http://www.autoperformanceengineering.com Very fast service, had pump in two days. Hope this helps.

how much gas is in the tank? if its below 1/4 during this time then the pump might be over heating. if its above 1/4 well, then i have no clue and i am sorry

I was just asking questions about problems with my car and with the help of what they were saying it could be the crankshaft position sensor. Check my post confused Bizzy describes the problem something like this which as I understand the waterpump can leak onto this sensor once it dries off it works great again. good luck

Thanks. First off, just did the 60k a few days ago so it's not the water pump or CPS. Do they sell those Walbro's at O'Reilly's or Autozone? My tank is usually 1/2 or less full when it dies.

BTW, if it is heat affected, how will a new one not do the same thing?

It's only heat related as the pump itself is on the way out. I've seen pumps go out with different symptoms. Some go out with no warning at all and usually leaves you stranded. Others will start acting up and gives the opportunity to replace it without becoming stranded. As any electrical motor, pump, begins to wear, it loses power from continuous operation. Therefore, a cold start up will not always be affected from a weak pump. The amount of fuel in the tank does not necessarily keep the 'heat' out of the pump but it's allowing the pump to pull the gas out with less effort. Hope this helps.
