the 89 I bought (<55K miles!!!) needs the headliner replaced, problem is the original owner bought car off showroom floor and dealer had one put in for him. In doing that most of the 'board' that the headliner would glue to is gone. any ideas on what would make a good headliner board ? I can't find anything on the web but the material. thanks in advance!!

The factory one is molded out of a pressed fiberglass material. Your best bet is to find on in a junkyard and reupholster it.

It kinda sounds like an aftermarket sunroof to me. In which case most of the board would have been removed to clear the sunroof kit. I think your best bet would be to find out what kind of roof it is and get a shop in your area to redo it. If you were here my shop would do it for no more than $125 so dont let them screw you!. If you wanna do it yourself you will need a new board and I could possibly take some pics and walk you through the process....
