Here's the issue:

1. Manual headlight switch only turns on the marker lamps, headlights do not come on when turned all the way.
2. Autolamp switch - was working just fine until I shut the car off tonight. Lights did not shut off when I turned the car off (after delay), would not shut off when I turned the auto lamp switch off. I had to disconnect the battery to turn the lights off. The manual switch is in the off position.

Here's the car:

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Haven't seen one of these in a while, but here's what happened:

Your headlight switch melted. Ford issued a TSB stating that the older headlight switches couldn't handle the current being drawn through them and would heat up to the point of melting the connector and wiring.

You need to get the headlight switch out of the dash bezel (gotta remove the bezel first, instructions are on the forum, search remove bezel) and inspect the wiring and the switch. Hopefully the connector is still serviceable...

well...to update.

Pulled the battery cable off last night so the headlights wouldn't drain the battery. Get to the gas station today and turned the autolamp switch off, and the lights turned off. After getting gas, I tried the manual light switch, and it's functioning properly.

Sounds like you lights are telling you that you are low on gas !
I would get that part while it is still available.

My fellow Virginian! Could you read this and possibly tell me what you think I should do next? I am sure this is my issue, but I don't know how to fix it FOR GOOD WITHOUT MODIFICATION.

This is my post:

I have already replaced everything twice except for the headlight switch. I have pulled the dash three times now!
