ok i just finished up my 3.2 atx to mtx swap where i used the 3.0 heads and i went cheap on something and thought i might be able to get away with reusing the 3.2 head gaskets since they looked good.
well i got the engine and all back together and it starts up, runs , and they after its running for about 20 or 30 secs theres steam coming out from the water running to the exhaust off the manifolds and all, its not running horribly bad just dripping.
so this is the first and last time ill ever try and reuse head gaskets. Lesson learned.
but one thing im not sure of is maybe the head wasent down all the way because the intake was a bit tricky to get on, like it took some tries and i must say i got some practice getting in on where their wasent any problems before but this time it just seemed not to sit flush.
well anyways at first i had an air leak where it wouldnt wanna stay running. but i got past that i just took the intake off and now its back on and seems not to be leaking.
well i still smell a little gas from the top of the intake but not a whole lot.
the thing is when i hit the throttle it seems to have a slight delay and then when its going back down it bogs way down and comes back up and goes even a little further down like its almost ready to stall (i can hear it tap a little from valve noise). after it does that twice it goes back to normal idle.
now would that be from a slight intake leak still?
my guess is thats all that it is. maybe from the fact i didnt get the heads down all the way (probley because i didnt use a new gasket)
other thing. where can i get a cheap head gasket? and should it be a 3.2 or 3.0 or doesnt it matter? i got 3.0 heads and 3.2 block.
i guess i just rushed the end of this project because i wanted to get it done so bad. i knew something might happen like this (kicking myself in the ass).
havent even got to take it for a drive yet.
bad part is i need a new y pipe also since the old mtx y pipe was rusted out where the bolts go to the cat back part.
so since i need a new one what does a OEM one cost? or would it be better to just get a performance y pipe?
im trying to go cheap right now since i need gaskets and a y pipe.
i did see a catless y pipe on bitter sweet sho website for $195, would that be good for performance and sound ? i got a dynomax exhaust. im lucky that i dont need to worry about emis tests.
well and since im here i got a good running 3.0 and a good running atx with all the parts from my swap if anyone needs anything.
sigh back to the garage.

You NEVER EVER re-use head gaskets.

This is why we tell people to use the 3.2L heads to save the cost of the gaskets if they can't afford them.

An OEM Y-Pipe is around $1800 if you can still get them. Summit Racing, $240 for the Magnaflow.

Not to be abrupt or anything, but why ask those who have been there / done that what to do or where to go or how to do it if you're not going to heed the advice?

There's so many threads lately on 3.2L swaps, Y-Pipes, etc. - the info's here.

Good luck with the re-assembly & installation of all new gaskets.

Yup head gaskets are EXTREMELY NOT reusable.

Iv been working 6 years in a dealership as a mechanic...so you can take my word for it.
