Every since I had my clutch replaced with a RAM Power Grip and a aftermarket, I think crappy! flywheel, my car has been grinding going into reverse every time. Can anyone help me with this? Does this have anything to do with that flywheel?? All my gears shift smoothly with the car off, so I don't think its the tranny.

When you stop. Before going into rev try a 1-2 shift then go to rev. You may even what to try 5th then rev it should take care of it.

and count to 5 :D Most SHO's grind going into Revrse if you don't take your time. Be sure the car is stopped, shift into 5th, then into Net. count to 5, then rev. Get back to us and let us know.

Is it going in all the way but just grinding? Or going in a 1/3 of the way and then grinding? The same problem you described occurred right when I had my CenterForce clutch installed, I know it will grind(due to reverse not having a sychronizer) but it just got worse with the new clutch.

If it partially goes in I would try slipping the clutch out a bit just right before it engages and at the same time appling pressure to get it into reverse.

Hey guys thanks for all the info, but I'm not new to the ford game, I've owned 7 mustangs. I've tried other gears and the car is always stopped. And yes its going all the way in reverse, but grinding and there's sometimes a slight shake too. But once again I do appreciate all the input. thumbs_u

I have had the same problem with my '91 MTX, no matter how long I wait or what gear i shift out of, it will grind on its way into reverse. Hopefully, the new clutch, flywheel, and throuwout bearing being installed as we speak should solve some of the problem.

You may want to use 4th gear before going into reverse. There should be a reverse lockout from 5th.

reverse doesn't have a synchro. So run from a fwd gear to reverse (I usually use 1st) or wait a few secs after you press in the pedal for the gearsets to stop spinning, then grab reverse.

From experience with my old '90, the best way to get into reverse smoothly is to shift to 4th, pause, and then up/over/down. Don't try to go to 5.

Yeah. This one kid told me I was a damned ***** when I ground into reverse, and the put it into 1st and then back to reverse and it worked. Would not believe that 1) there was no synchro on reverse 2) that putting it into a forward gear and then into reverse would solve it. Stupid kid.

I was taught when i was 16 that i should always go into 4th first then up and into reverse. Because i learned it that way i've always done it like that and none of my cars ever grind going into reverse. It kills me when i hear someone dumping it into reverse and grinding the **** out of it.
