Ok this is a tired question but my friend's 93 ATX has developed a hard starting problem. He is a very agressive SHO owner & recently with temps warming the car won't start when the engine is hot. It turns over but will not start... wait 30-45mins & a cool engine pops right off. Before it started doing this frequently it would start but idle very rough without giving it a little gas. We checked cam sensor yesterday & read previous posts but don't think it seems to be the culprit. It ONLY occurs when hot & been driven. Any suggestions? Also cleaned the sensor on the MAF & the sensor in the airbox but still have same results. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the fuel return line check valve or fuel pump. If either is the culprit replace both because the fuel tank is coming off anyway. Run a search here to find the part #'s if you need it. It can be hard to find at the dealer so the part # is helpful.

I second what luigisho wrote. You can check the check valve by turning the ignition key to ON when the engine is hot and listening for the telltale rumbling from the fuel tank. If you hear this sound, the hot fuel is depressurizing in the return line and bubbling up though the fuel in the tank. If there is no evidence of the rumbling noise, it is probably the fuel pump getting weak in its old age.
