Okay i know i am supposed to search first and i did for a bout 10 min and found an answer to part of my question but i dont have time to search more...i have had hard starts sometimes but on the second try it would start...then every once in a while the CEL would come on for about 5 seconds and then go off. Then i just tried starting it after leaving it in my driveway for like 10min and it went tu start n then it died...i kept cranking and it sounded horrible like it really wanted to start but couldnt. then it finally strted ran like crap for a few seconds then idled fine. now the CEL light is on and the tach nor the speedo are working. How do you check the codes with a paper clip? and does anyone have any ideas about the starting?

159- (O,R) MAF Sensor is/was out of range - MAF

i thnk these were the stored ones-

212 - (M) Ignition TACH signal was erratic(module/wiring) or SPOUT circuit fault - Ignition Systems

214 - (M) Error in Cylinder ID (CID) Circuit or signal - ignition systems

556 - (O,M) Fuel Pump relay primary circuit fault - power/fuel pump circuits

i have no idea what any of these mean

Also..a code 538 - (R) System did not recieve goose test
im not sure what this means...i also did the cylinder balance test...how long does this usually take because i have it about 7-10min and no codes popped up but after i shut the car off i stuck my finger in one of the pipes n my finger came out black n wet...which obviously means it was sutting the cylinders off like it shouldve been...

I'd replace the cam ID sensor.

When they do bad, the engine can be either impossible (or merely difficult) to start or it intermittently runs like it's ********.

yea i have a thing for ******** motors too...when i had my explorer i did a 5.0 swap but instead of a dist. i used a cam synchro with coil packs like the V8 explorers have n when the cam sensor went the sensor broke off and mashed the synchro...but heres the thing: I ONLY FOUND OUT WHEN I GOT IT INSPECTED when it failed for emissions on the inspection..the motor ran perfectly n its not supposed to (mustve been a super motor)

okay what is a cam ID sensor(is that the cam sensor) and where is it?
