A similar thing happened to me shortly before my diff-pin snapped and tore a hole in my transaxle (It got very hard to get it to go into 1st gear and reverse would grind sometimes even after putting it in another gear and waiting 3-5 seconds after pushing the clutch in) ...Just a possibility, however it's more likely to be the clutch

Did a search and saw that post. That sounds alot like my problem but I wanted to run it by some folks.

Simply put, the car is a ******* to get into gear. 1st-2nd-3rd are the worst gears and reverse will grind on startup just about every time. Even if I'm careful and run through the gears and give it a second to warm up.

Also, when shifting there are two "clicks" when going into gear. Like, when going into first you push forward the shifter feels like its in gear, when in fact it is not. It has to be pushed forward until it clicks again. All gears seem to be this way but first and second are the worst. It makes for alot of grinds when poeple drive the car for the first time, lol.

Clutch feel is solid. Previous owner said it was replaced less than 10k miles ago and seems to be holding well. Clutch pedal feels good, good throw, not too loose, not too hard, very nice.

I'm new to the entire SHO thing, but have you checked the shift linkage and see how that is?

Motor mounts?

Checked transmission fluid?

With that description I guess that's the best I could do, anyone with more knowledge relating to SHO's (which is everyone here :)) can chime in anytime now :).

I have the same problem. I have a bad front motor mount and regular atf (not synthetic). If you have wear marks on the top of the intake, you may need motor mounts. Synthetic tranny fluid seems to stop the double-click into gear thing.

a couple months ago i was about to back out a friend's driveway after dropping her off, but the car wouldn't go into reverse. then i tried other gears and it wouldn't go into any gear at all for a while, so i pushed the car out of the driveway. i finally got it into 3rd and drove home like that. it turns out theres a kind of brace bar (i don't know the name for it) that is attached around the box underneath shifter at one end, and is bolted into the transmission at the other. i think it's there to keep the shifter and tranny the same distance apart all the time so the linkage itself doesn't get pushed and pulled. anyway, the bar is supposed to pivot around the bolt in the transmission. in my case, the bolt had backed itself out of the threads until it was yanked out completely in my friend's driveway, but luckily i didn't lose it on the ride home. i threaded it back in and tightened it up and my shifts have been shorter and smoother ever since. it also helped that i had just replaced the front motor mount a few weeks before this happened, so you might want to check to see if yours is in good shape. good luck

I do indeed.

How difficult is it to replace the motor mounts on the car? I assume its a damn pain..
