I am having trouble shifting my 91 with non rod shift cables.I changed the trans fluid ,but no difference.it is hard to shift into reverse even when you do 4th to reverse.I thought the cable may have gotten longer.Should i try a new cable? The clutch doe not slip.

How do i check that? I have no trouble with 2nd,3rd or 4th-only into reverse.

You'd know because you'd grind gears from time to time.

On mine I have to blip the throttle before I shift into reverse otherwise I grind it.

Try 2nd to reverse. Try putting foot under clutch pedal and pulling up hard to set adjuster.

hard to get into reverse means that it grinds? or that it takes a lot of force?

if it grinds, even after shifting into a forward gear, that tells you that the clutch is not disengaging fully.

if it takes a lot of force, after shifting into a forward gear, that suggests that the input shaft does not roll over easily. the most common cause for that is a bad bearing (which sucks because replacement bearings are unobtainium).

if it takes a lot of force, what happens if you push in the clutch and shift immediately into reverse? does it grind? or is it just high force?

I had one trans that got so bad I had to be moving the shifter into the gear as I started to push in the clutch, or else I could not get it engaged. one of the bearings had a little spalling on the rollers was all, but it made the trans un-usable.

4th to reverse works best. But if it is tough put it back into neutral let the clutch out and then try 4th to reverse again. Works for me.
