Whelp. Just as I was planning to get aggressively more proactive in my maintenance - and less than 250 miles since I had the dealership change the coolant, the water pump is leaking.

I have a 2013 non-PP Taurus. Are there any other wear items inside the engine that should be changed while they do the water pump?

Also, are there any PP parts I could have them put in that would improve the reliability of the vehicle? This is still my DD, and I intend for it to continue being so for at least 8 years.

Timing chain, secondary timings chains, guides, Tensioners and of course water pump. Phasers and sprockets if u wish, but usually they're fine. Phaser solenoids if u wish. They're about $39 each x2.

Nope, no pp upgrades here.

What mileage on your vehicle? Around 100k miles, these pumps are on borrowed time. Usually there is weeping before complete and catastrophic failure. Not one of Ford's "Better Ideas"

Thanks! I’ll have them switch those as well. They said that their quote included the timing chain and gaskets, so that’s good.

I seem to be at the weeping stage. 141k - and of course my warranty expired at 140k.

It is what it is. Admittedly, I've been babying the car for the last 10k miles or so. Last Friday was a particularly good day, so I decided to have some fun on my way home. I'm paying for that decision now. I guess the next time I have a car getting close to warranty expiration, I'll drive it harder to have the weak links break under warranty.

I'm really liking the look of the Mach E, Hybrid F150, and Broncho. I think I'd be fully sold on an all-electric broncho with the fold-down seats, 120v inverter, and 0-60 in 4-5 seconds.

Alas, I'll probably be in the SHO for another 7-8 years if it can hold out that long.

The water pump on my 2013 SHO failed spectacularly just this week. No warning whatsoever. I have 140K miles on it. It's currently at the dealer getting fixed.

Water pumps are a super common issue with these cars. **** - I had my PTU crap out on my at 59,000 miles. If Ford would issue a recall on the water pump and the PTU, these cars would be bulletproof.
