Would an improperly installed driver side halfshaft make a slight grinding noise upon initial takeoff (0-5 MPH)?

It sounds as if the bearings inside the boot are worn but the boot is not torn. My old 89 had a torn boot and I knew the bearings were making the same noise since they were obviously exposed to dirt, exc...but on my 92 the boots are intact so I'm assuming the bearings are OK. Should I replace my halfshaft anyways to get rid of that grinding upon takeoff? Would the bearings become worn even with a good boot?

Much thanks
~Alex

Check the wheel bearings in the hub. CV joints don't grind - they "clack" when turning.

I could see how that sound would be a "clack" rather than a grind...

What else can this little grind noise be if you don't think it's a wheel bearing?

EDIT: nevermind I misread your post...I'll check the wheel bearings...

Definitely thought of that...

When I get my clutch done in two weeks the fluid will be changed with Redline; hopefully this will take care of it.

If it doesn't I'll try to diagnose the problem or perhaps have my mechanic figure it out.
