While doing a TwEECer data log of a WOT run the other day, I heard a pop at about 5K rpm... Backed off, and the car was running like crap from about 1000 to 2500 rpm. Didn't get any codes worth mentioning, so I pulled the pan today and found many small chunks of plastic and two halves of what appears to have been one of my cam chain tensioner plastics. Fortunately most of the tensioner plastic was warn away, so I didn't have enough pieces in there to block the oil pickup.

Just when she's running great, finally back on the road, and looking ... okay, I'll stop there. ;)

Anywho, I've read through all the posts I can find on the Cam Chains and Tensioners. I'm replacing (providing I can get the parts) chains, tensioners, and rod bearings (and all associated gaskets/seals ofc). I'm going to do the valve shims and cleaning the intake pieces also. Anything else I should do while I'm in there?

I looked up into the cylinder walls and seems there's still prominent honing marks! yay!!

First set of pictures are below. I'll get more when I get it all apart.

Looks like it's time to get some more miles on my Z1000. :)

Wish me luck!

I thought that they just wore down. I didn't know they could just break up like that.
