I'm hoping this is a common problem in the SHO, for I've heard it discussed before. I have to ease my shifter into reverse, and even then, I get a little bit of grinding. Anyways, is there anything particular that should be done? Thanks, Addam

EDIT: This page does not have what I was looking for ... but I'll leave it up anyway.

Go into forward gear first... I use 1st or 5th, then take put it in reverse. I hear using 2nd gear lines the reverse gear up...

yeah bro, just go into third, then reverse. Reverse has no synchro, that's why it grinds. Just go third-reverse, you'll be all set. I started doing that... no more grinding.

laugh_ti I love this guy! Thank you whoever added it!

*edit* lol you beat me to it. I thought it was third that lined it up though?

HEY! WHAT HAPPENED TO MY "HUH?" GRAEMLIN?!?!?!?! rant

As long as your not moving if you go into second first you won't grind reverse. Its gear is unsynchronis which makes for a real PIA.

Yup, just like everyone else said put your car in 2nd before reverse and it will never grind again. Make sure your car doesn't roll between the 2nd gear and reverse shift or else it will still grind.

long before synchronized transmissions/transaxles came along, it was dealer recommended to first shift into 2nd before ANY gear. this would properly align all the gears for smooth shifting. i picked it up from my dad, and to this day, i still shift from second to reverse.
