Gotta love those cooled seats

Seat and back both have cool air on our car. In fact when it is on full blast I can hear the air being pushed out of the seat back. I usually turn it down one knotch so I don't have to listen to the thing.

This is our first car with A/C seats. It is way cooler than I ever thought it would be (no pun intended).

Yeah, driving home after diving yesterday I could tell that both the bottom and the back were blowing cool air. I have to say, the heated and cooled seats are a plus, but we also have or had them in our Explorers. I know our 2002 had them, and I think our 04 has them.

To confirm that, at least on my car, the back also is cooled and heated, I got out the thermal imaging camera tonight. Sure enough, the seat back is heated and cooled, although it is less effective than the seat bottom heating and cooling. I also checked the rear heated seats. They work, and appear to work more effectively than the fronts. They also appear to be the standard resistance wire heating elements whereas the front seats are the thermal electric coolers.

Attached are the images I took of my driver's side seats. I didn't check the passenger side front seat.

Last time I took my vehicle in for service I had them check the airflow of the seats (I wasn't feeling it in the back as well). For what its worth they tested it and said the airflow is "normal". But I could have swore when I test drove a different SHO then the one I bought that I was feeling the a/c on the pack and on mine I don't. The other one was a non-pp where mine is as well. Just food for thought I suppose but seems its hit or miss if people are experiencing it or not.

Funny you should mention this, I swear at times I can feel the airflow more on some days then on others. I just contributed it to my sensitivity...thinking that maybe some times I can detect the cool air better then other times. Also, I think that maybe when I'm really warm I can "feel" the cool air more then when I am already a bit cool, like after spending a few hours diving in cooler water. May be my imagination, but I really think it is just me and not a difference in the seats.

I always thought just the seat bottoms were cooled but the bottoms and back are heated. That is what I feel in my car. BTW, I absolutely love the cooling feature. Never thought I would but I always keep mine on low and it's just enough to stay comfy. Great feature.

Rod what kind of Flir do you use? I have been thinking of doing a side business with a thermal imaging camera for home inspections, but I just started looking at them. What do you use your's for?

I have an Extech i5 handheld FLIR camera. I've had it about 2 years now. I originally bought it to prove to my wife that new windows were not going to make our house more comfortable, the issue is with the lack of insulation in the walls. Apparently that argument is only valid if you can get your wife to understand the IR display. I've since used it to verify misfiring cylinders, to find air leaks in buildings, to identify ICs drawing high current on circuit boards, and even to find the cable box that was on fire in my basement (smelled something burning but couldn't tell where it was coming from, until I got out the IR camera), and for determining if heated and/or cooled seats work.

I'm sure I've used it for other legitimate uses as well. I picked mine up from Grainger. With the discount they give employees of the company I work for, it cost me less than I could have bought it on eBay for. I've been quite pleased with it and had no issues, but I'm also not using it daily.

I just bought a 2015 base SHO that as the forum states has heated and cooled seats. I too dont think I am getting any cool air out of the back of the seat.
I can feel it at the "but"/bottom but not the back. From what I gather from this post both the back and front of the seats are cooled but most here are only feeling it on the "but"/bottom side

It is a common problem on Fords, including the Edge and the F150. Supposedly they have a TSB for the F150 that includes installation of new-design vents in the seatback. Still don't know if it is effective though.

Maybe the filters are clogged? I know Ford did away with the filter media and just put some cheap piece of plastic in place.
