So here is a recap. I picked up a beatiful 93 SHO black on black. Amazing condition in and out. Only problem was the MTX. Syncros gone in 3rd and 4th. I got real lucky and found some one local that had a motor and MTX from a totaled car with only 50k on it. Since my motor had 200k, I figured swap both.

With my budget being tight, I only replaced things that really needed it. New timing belt, water pump, and both CV axles. I found the clutch in my 200k motor was brand new, almost no wear or dust. So I figured why spend more and replace it. TB also looked new. Previous owner probably had it replaced thinking that was what was wrong with the MTX.

So fast forward to today. Finished buttoning up everything and got it started. First thing I notice is a knocking sound. I'm starting to get ****** thinking the guy I got the motor from lied about the milage and condition. Then my buddy gets in and pushes the clutch, and noise goes away. Let it out and comes back.

Did I screw up re-using the clutch. I have read on here about clutches chattering. I think the clutch was a Luk brand. Should I worry, or drive it for a while and see if it gets better.

Yeah definitely sounds like chatter, and apparently anything other than the stock clutch chatters in these cars. I've had 3 aftermarket clutches in mine and they all have chattered. Sometimes the new clutch starts chattering right away, other times it takes a bit of driving before it starts making any noise. So the fact that it didn't chatter before doesn't mean that there's something wrong with it now. I guess that with changing the clutch out onto the other motor things were now moved around and now just randomly started chattering right away.

But anyhow, if it's going away when you push the clutch pedal in then it's gotta be chatter. Sounds embarassing... especially when sitting in the drive-thru's with the clutch out-- the car sounds like it's a heap of junk when it starts to chatter, and the sound is even louder because it's echoing off the side of McDonald's lol.

A tip that usually works though is to push in the clutch pedal and VERY slowly release it all the way. Some times the clutch won't chatter again until you touch the pedal again, and other times a few minutes later it'll start up again. Usually keeps it quiet for at least a few minutes though if you are embarassed by the sound ;)

In my current tranny I have a slight knocking sound when the clutch is out, push it in it goes away, in my case it is the bearings in the tranny going out.

Ask me how I know this......

Well I hope its not my bearings in the tranny. Im didnt change the tranny fluid yet, but thats top on my list. I guess we will see if it quiets up at all once I put some Mobile 1 in there.
