Back in Michigan ... again.
Figured I'd post a new thread with some definitives instead of a "waddya think" thread.

Looking for something to do on Labor Day weekend? Come to the state where we don't have a drought, where global warming has the lakes warm enough to generate tropical weather systems, and where you can enjoy some auto racing, camping, or just plain relaxation for the day. Here's the details for the GLSS Labor Day Weekend Festival 2012!

Saturday/Sunday, September 1-2: Track day at GingerMan (AutoInterests) in South Haven, some forum discussion here: http://www.shoforum.com/showthread.php?t=123242
Track day info here: http://autointerests.com/events/410
Camping is available at the track.

AND/OR

Sunday, September 2: Meet/cookout at Hunter's house at Coldwater Lake, Weidman Michigan. That's in mid-Michigan, about 2 hours northeast from GingerMan, 2.5 hours from Detroit, 3 hours from Fort Wayne, 3 hours from Toledo. I'm 10 miles west of Mt. Pleasant, home to CMU, Soaring Eagle Casino and their brand new hotel/waterpark they just opened, in case there are any families looking for a little Labor Day weekend vacation. Be advised, if you want the waterpark, better call them NOW.

I have a little over an acre with lake access on Coldwater Lake--plenty of room to park and have a bbq rain or shine. Can have yard games, bonfire, and if there's enough people/interest I could see about linking up some PS3s for head-to-head racing. At the very least, I'll offer a special prize for anyone who sets the quickest lap in the reasonably-priced car at the virtual Top Gear test track in GT5 (using my racing cockpit, of course) :thumb:

Probably won't have a boat to go enjoy the lake on as previously thought, unless someone wants to bring one!

For anyone who'd like to come out on Saturday and camp, I have room for that as well, and there's Coldwater Lake park just a mile away that has provisions for RVs and trailers. Or, you can camp Sunday night and leave Monday, but folks would need to head out in the morning as I have other commitments in the afternoon.

I'll provide burgers/dogs and non-alcoholic beverages. If anyone would like to bring a dish to pass, I certainly won't turn it down.

At this point, let's get a go/no-go list going so I can prepare. Please post up by August 27 if you plan to go. As always, last minute emergencies are understood but if you post up that you'll go, please stick with it!

Put me in for Sunday at this point. Gingerman ain't gonna work, and Sheboygan at Andy & Kris's, while probably a great time, just is a bit too far.

Sorry Chris, I'm still waiting for my wife to make up her mind on what she wants to do that weekend....

No worries Tim, it's looking more and more like I'm going to be tackling this convertible top replacement myself; just not satisfied with the quotes I'm getting for the work. Yeah, tops can be tough, but it's not like a fox body mustang is a rare car with a big top.

Still open to help for the install though. I have a four-day weekend for Labor Day, hopefully that will be enough!

My wife is still undecided on what she would like to do, but it looks like we won't be going anywhere, but wants to have people over one night. Are you going to Gingerman at all, or just working on the Stang all weekend?

I'm in! Remember the good ol' days when even a simple work on SHO/ garage meet generated at least 20 people. Not sure what I'll be driving. I've got the GTS up for sale and hope to have the SHO torn down for paint soon.

Are we still talkin' about Sunday?? Family tried to change today's (Sunday 8/26) family thing in Port Huron to next Sunday, but I objected.
Far as I know, I am free for Sunday.

I have the 5.slow. But the ragtop gets all the ladies :naughty:

Yes, still talking Sunday. Since it looks like there will be just a small crowd, I'm not going to go nuts on food or yard games or anything. I'll have some beef & fixings for a cookout, have some beverages, and just enjoy a nice, relaxing day.

And I WON'T be doing the top on the 'stang. There's a shop in GR that will do it for $995, parts and labor. Just going that route since I'd be over $400 just in parts and tools. $600 for the instal by professionals sounds like money well spent, and since I'm most likely keeping this car instead of flipping it, not too concerned about spending the extra $$$$.

Also, offer is still open to anyone who wants to head out Saturday and stay and/or camp. I'm actually thinking about having a BIG bonfire Saturday or Sunday evening. I want to get rid of some of this brush I have before fall hits.

Gonna keep it, eh?

Good choice!!

Also a good choice on having the professionals do it. Sometimes, unless you have no funds, that's the better way!!

After Ryan Dudek & I spent 3 days R&Ring the tranny on his Gen 3....in a garage with a lift, tranny jack, and all the tools, we said we are NEVER doing this again!! Consensus was that paying someone $500 was worth it.

Well, a year later, the TC shyte the bed again. Pioneer Transmission here in Lake Orion wanted $500 for the R&R. Ryan couldn't pull out the credit card fast enough!!

Ok Chris, it looks like I'll be out on Sunday afternoon to your place. Looks like you are finally getting some interest! It'll be nice to see some people again! We'll see which car I decide to drive, it will depend on the weather.... :)

Yeah Ron, as I'm getting along in years I'm less interested in doing the wrenching and more interested in doing the driving. I still enjoy the work, but just as a hobby. As I researched top install, it's not actually very complicated or difficult. But experience pays huge dividends in getting things lined up and buttoned down right without a bunch of redo/frustration. Inevitably, I'd end up gluing my shirt to the top or something stupid. For $600, I'll let someone else handle the frustration. As for the sale, well I haven't had many bites at my asking price, and I'm not interested in going cheaper. Prices on these cars aren't going to go any lower, and with a new top perhaps next spring will be a stronger market. In the meantime, I'm stuck driving a V-8 Mustang convertible. Damn.

Timbo, just go ahead and bring the wagon; I'm happy to give you a ride back home so you don't have to bring two cars  Or, feel free to take the Mustang back with you. I'll even include the new top & snow tires in the trade!
