Ok... I'm going to start a poll for Frankenmuth, Northern Ohio, or south-central Michigan for our Christmas dinner. The dinner will be held wherever the majority vote goes to. However, ONLY VOTE IF YOU FOR SURE PLAN TO ATTEND! I'd hate to have a south-central meet only to have most of the people there driving from the east side & Ohio, and likewise I'd hate to have it in Frankenmuth if Indiana & Ohio people make the trip while only a couple east Michigan folk show up.
I'm also going to take this opportunity to make my plug for Frankenmuth. I'm not biased by distance... it's no longer very close for me at all (about a 1.5 hour drive for me now... I'm actually closer to Ohio and about equal distance to Coldwater) but I think for Christmas it would be by far the best choice and ABSOLUTELY worth a drive. ****, I'd drive 3 hours for it; the atmosphere will be pure Christmas and the food will be outstanding. There's plenty of Christmas shopping to be done in the area, including mainstream shopping as well as Bronner's. It will be a family-friendly event, kids and adults alike will love Bronner's and if folks aren't in the holiday spirit before this meet then they would be after
It could be whatever you want it to be; a dinner only, an all-day shopping/dinner, an overnight stay, a winter wonderland sight seeing trip, etc. It's definitely my first choice of the three, and I think it would be worth the drive for those further out
http://www.bavarianinn.com for the restaurant.
http://www.bronners.com for the Christmas wonderland.
http://www.primeoutlets.com/cntrdefault.asp?cntrid=1015 for the largest outlet mall in the midwest, minutes from Frankenmuth.
But, here at GLSS majority rules. Cast your vote, and if you have some restaurant/activity ideas in south central MI or northern Ohio, post them up!
Regardless of where we go, figure dinner to cost anywhere from $15-$25 per person, depending on what you get. IIRC, Bavarian Inn's chicken dinner (all you can eat & world famous) was $18.00, but there were coupons online for 1/2 price dinners with the purchase of one. Whether or not those coupons will be up I don't know.
And to answer Focus & SHO's question about inviting other Focus guys... if it were any other meet I'd be fine with it, but for Christmas I'd really like to keep it for club members only. It's a special time of year and I really want to make this a more exclusive, memorable event. It's not just another meet, it's for our online family
