I am considering forced induction down the road:cool:, but I was wondering what my SHO needs in preparation. What needs upgrading etc. I've seen a lot of SHOs with centrifugal supercharging and it seems like the way to go, but the money for that is a ways off for me, so I figured I could put some prerequisites on the shopping list so I won't be tempted to spend money on less important things:angelnot: (stereo, paint, a/c, etc.) I know injectors and fuel pump for sure need beefing up, but I'm not sure how much. I am aiming for 300 bhp:dribble:.

:thankyou:
Jon

At 300hp, you're not really getting what you pay for with any boosted application on these cars. If you're looking to save some cash, search the forums on turbo builds and build your own.

You're right, you'll need injectors and a fuel pump... You'll also need a fuel pressure regulator and something to tune with (PLEASE don't use an FMU).

Other than that, just maintain the car and you'll be fine.

I Think a turbo setup will be a little cheaper and more power per dollar.

Judging by these posts i dont think hes looking for max power. ;)

P.S to the OP a search or a quick browse through the FI section will do you wonders.:thumb:

If he's not going for max power, it would be all the more reason to get a turbo. You are more likely to spend a lot less money. A Vortech blower alone is $2k +, whereas you can get a turbo for MUCH cheaper. If you don't want all the power, no sense in paying the same price for a lower power application.

BTW, you'll never stay at 300hp after you have it setup.

Isn't there a PSI range to use, or are you stuck at a certain PSI depending on the unit chosen?

On a Vortech? No, they're rated in CFM and boost... Boost is just how much strain the blower can handle really. As far as CFM, the blower will only be efficient until a certain point, then it just turns into a hair dryer...

If you're going for a reliable build, you want to find out how much power you need, and size the blower one step up, IMO.

If you want to go with a blower setup, for a quick start up list, I would plan on getting

1. Intercooler
2.EGT gaugue
3. Boost Gauge
4 wideband
5.Tweecr rt to tune it
6.All the piping
7. Bigger injectors
8.Fuel presure regulator
9. Bigger fuel pump
10. Bigger brakes
11. Stage 3 clutch and ceramic though out bearing

And that should pretty much be most of the basic stuff that you will need to get started.

actually if hes only planning to make 300 hp at the crank and wants a supercharger he dont need a intercooler if he matches the right supercharger.
EGT gauge isnt needed either... 300 hp with boost would be a very low cfm charger and not more then a few psi.
actually if he hit 300 chp he wouldnt need a tune either and could use a stock maf if he liked along with stock injectors and i would just upgrade the fuel pump to feel safe.
**** if all he paid for was the supercharger and piping he could save a lot of coin and not really deal with the headaches most deal with.

EGT isn't really needed if you have a wideband. If you're running the right A/F ratio, you're not going to burn it up.

Wow, thanks, I had no idea I would get such a great response:woo-hoo:. My question has defiantly been answered. I am worried though, what is the point of putting 300+ hp on a fwd car, I completely understand the idea behind sleeper factor (its half the reason I bought a SHO in the first place;)) but a certain point, doesn't it just becomes useless, won't you be spinning the tires all day. And it still doesn't have the handling potential of rwd. Correct me if I'm wrong please.

half-way there, I think.

Sure, but that's half the fun. Honestly, once I'm out of first, traction isn't to hard to come by and it is a blast.

If you go with boost, you're going to need a LOT of parts. Anyone can make a list and there will always be parts left out that you will need.

A goal of 300bhp sounds like a nitrous build to me...
