Anyone replace an alternator recently? Tackling this job today. Got it up in the air yesterday and saw how much of a pain this is going to be. Had a beer and was going to continue. Had another and decided to wait... Feedback anyone? I have not looked to find the process to remove it, but looks like some suspension parts have to be removed...

I haven't done one in a while but I remember having to drop the subframe a few inches to get enough clearance to get the alternator out. I also think I removed the outer tie rod from the knuckle.

i did it w/out dropping sub-frame.

- removed pass-side wheel
- removed tie rod/knuckle & black plastic panels inside wheel well
- i did not remove the panels on top of engine compartment
- i remember that there were two bolts that held the alternator in place and the rear bolt was very difficult for me to remove (and replace) w/ my large hands
- i didn't remove any fuel or brake lines
- once alternator is unfastened, it must be dropped and twisted and turned to get thru the very narrow opening in the wheel well

very labor-intensive and slow process

One of the most difficult alternators to change. I could do it faster now if I had to, but OMG.
- Raise vehicle
- Remove passenger front wheel
- Remove both inner linings
- Remove drive belt
- Remove tie rod end
- Remove upper bar end link
- Pull alt plug
- Remove bottom 2 alt bolts
- Remove valve cover beauty harness cover
- Remove top alt bolt
- Drop alt
- Remove alt to battery cable

In addition for wheel hub assembly, remove caliper bracket and rotor, then axle nut. The top bolt on the hub was a major pain!

Install was reverse of that. 6 hours from start to finish but also did both hubs. So I guess it was not too bad, but going to call the dealer on Monday just to see what the labor is for that job!
