This is going out to all the year one (1989) owners. What was invloved in getting Gen III wheels under the rear fender wells? How much cutting and/or tire size combos? We all know how special the rear fenders of our cars are. :p

I wouldn't think there would be any problem. But if there was I wouldn't hesitate to bang in the fender lip. I've cut the lips on far nicer cars than the SHO. Used tin snips and made cuts about 2 inches apart and then whacked it flat with a hammer. Then again I don't really have to worry about rust much here.

I would imagine that if you did Gen III wheels, you should be able to run 215/60 or 225/55 tires without any problems.

Gen3 wheels w/225x55x16 fit under the fender wells on your 89 just fine with SHO stock springs. Once you add eibachs or another brand of lowering spring it will be nessasary to do a little driverside modification that was discussed earlier on the forum

Hey.If you have to cut or grind any.Be sure to use something for rust while youre under there.I had to grind a little on my 91 and didnt use anything for rust. Now my next project is to remove the rust that ate through the fender

I had 245/45/17 tires on and now have 235/45/17 with no problem.
Gen III wheels look really nice.

Put them on and find out.

Good luck

Mike
