Does anyone know if there was an AM/FM/CD model made for the JBL Gen I system. I thought I saw one on Ebay, but I can't find out anything.

Would it work with the plugs I have in the car. I would love to have CD and give up the cassettes I end up storing all over my car.

Does anyone have such a thing that they'd like to sell?

It a very rare option,i`d actually like to know the original price on them.I think it was not ofter ordered because CD`s were pretty new back then.Kirk has one going on E bay soon(if it`s not there now)complete with the stock radio that he will be starting the bidding at $100 for the set.If it doesn`t seel,it will be donated under the company(SHO Parts East)for the auction a tthis years convention.

I know that on my '89 it wasnt even an option (from the factory).

Ive still got the factory JBL tape deck... when my lady first looked in the car when I was looking to buy it she said "No CD player?" I hesitated, then thought... and responded with "You know, I dont even know if they were putting CD players in cars in '89!"

my dad's 91 has the cd player, also most gen I's i've been in have them. maybe it was an Ohio option, hehe

or are you talking about the all in one units found in things like contours? that would be rare for a gen I.

I saw that gen I CD player on eBay the other day. Anyway you could put a gen 2 CD player (there on ebay all the time) with only small modifications. E-mail me for details

You probably could "cut and splice",but the CD player itself looks different, and the connections are different.I`d rather have to original just because i`m funny that way.

Actually, I am talking about a single-DIN head unit that does not include the cassette deck, only CD capability. The one I saw on ebay had the flat "Gen I" front, and the connections looked compatible with the JBL system, and the unit had a 1991 part number.

I'd love to have this kind of OEM system. Anybody seen anything like it?

Yes,that`s what i`m talking about.A single DIN size CD player compatible with the stock radio.Try mailing [email protected] and ask him what he`d want to get for it,but i do know it won`t be under $100.

Quote from jthomas68: "I`d rather have to original just because i`m funny that way".

Jeremy, I completely agree with you, I'm funny that way also! You know, like keeping the perforated leather centers in GEN I seats! wink

Anyway, the original window sticker I have for my '90 SHO says: Ford JBL audio system = $488.00, and the Audio Digital Disc = $491.00!! eek!

These am/fm cassette-CD systems are very rare, especially in PERFECT WORKING CONDITION, which mine is, thanks to Nook/ProSuspension parting out the black/black '91 SHO on Shoforum recently! thumbs_u

I have a 91+,but i removed the plus emblems(24V)painted the white slicers, reilled holes in a plastic hood, and cut a huge hole in the fender. But,i`d rather have a stock radio over an aftermarket...go figure. :D I knew they had to be expensive because CD`s were just so new back in 91.I`m not 100% sure that the Gen I CD player would plug into and Gen I,as they weren`t an option in 89,so the plugs may not be there. The one Kirk has is $100 for both units, radio and CD.I have a Poineer head until with a Pioneer 12 CD disc changed, but i`d rather have that stock setup instead.

I've seen the slave CD player for Gen I, and they are rare. However, what I am talking about is an AM/FM/CD player - no slave system, no cassette player. All of this is a single-DIN package. As I said in my original post, it had a 1991 serial number (I think for a Mustang - F1Z ***).

I was inquiring if anyone knew of this head unit, whether it was compatible with the JBL system (the pic on ebay looked right). I can't even find it listed as an option on any Ford of 1991, but who knows?

I have a gen 1 CD player and radio/tape head unit that will be going on ebay next week. Its from a '90 SHO. I also have the amps(sub and full range) to go with it. The CD player and radio/tape look brand new with no cracks or fading buttons. All in perfect working condition. If you need any of the parts I'll be willing to sell it to you before putting it on Ebay. If you need pictures I have those too. you can contact me at mailto:[email protected][email protected]</a> . Give me a good offer and I be more than willing to hook you up.

Yes, that was an option. I have that in my 91+ MTX. It is AM/FM/Tape/CD player. Also, there is an amp (only 7 watts per channel), 2 6"X8" Woofers, 6 1/2" front speakers, and 5"X7" rear speakers.
