Since the '16 Taurus is ditching the D3 platform and going with a modified Fusion platform, wouldn't it be considered a new gen? Generally speaking (no pun intended), a new chassis is usually given a new gen.

Unless we move to China, we will not be purchasing that Gen 5 Taurus anytime soon....unless you have inside information that the US version is ditching D3.

Taked to a Ford engineer and he said that the only change for the US Version is going to be the wheels

They are going to make the Taurus nameplate on different platforms? Don't they generally have a name change to go along with that?

Saw two new 2016 SHO's at the Assembly Plant Tour.

No noticeable changes to body or interior. Did see rear rotors are vented now, but still thinner overall versus front rotors. Also front rotors have holes stamped &/or fab'd into the rotor hats. Likely for weight savings and better venting.

But there are (alleged) major changes looming.

Possibly a mid year '16 change, or '17 depending. Don't care to say more.

At the SHO Convention many of the long time SHO-AHOLICS, about all of them, consider the 13+ a Gen 5 SHO...

With a new front end, new dashboard, new badging, new spoiler, different programming, and added cooling features....

I'm with the gen 4.2 being the 5th Gen?

Did you mean 4.1? I'm with you on that. I don't consider the '13+ MYs a Gen 5. The changes they refer to making it a Gen 5 are not significant in the big picture. The Gen 1 Mustang is considered to be MYs '64.5 to '73. Look at the difference between the '64.5 and the '73.

Gen 1 & 2 didn't have big changes until a year in right?

My vote would be Gen 5...swayed by the long time SHO-AHOLICS at the Convention.

From what I have heard from insiders is that only major change is the replacement of MFT with a new non-MS version. Which in my estimation means all of us with MFT can forget about any future support or enhancements. I never understood why the non gui sync got app support and MFT didnt...not even sure what the purpose of wifi settings are if it doesnt actually connect to the outside world...

I think they are wrong. When out at the Chicago plant tour last week. Both SHO's parked in front of the building were built that week and window stickered as 2016.

Yeah, our designations don't match Ford. What we call Gen 1 & 2 are all Gen 1 to Ford.

We call the 13+ the Gen 5. Looks like 2016 will still be the Gen 5 2013 style. I would guess the new platform would be a 2017, and that would be a Gen 6 for us.

Well, Ford is wrong about the Gen 2 :) New body style in '92 (not just grille/wheels/brakes etc), new programming, a new engine w auto in '93, quite a list. Gen III is undisputed, everything changed there! Gen IV brought a completely new car, new platform, new body style, new engine, & whatnot. Compare that to the changes from 2010 to 2013, I see quite a few updates, but not on the same scale transitioning from Gen I to Gen II. Significant enough though to merit the .1 to .2 designation change though.
