I had a few questions about the gen III sho's. I was looking into buying another SHO after selling my 95 ATX and I know a fair deal about bout 2nd and 3rd generation SHO's but i know there were problems with the cams and whatnot. What was the problem with this?? Did it involve all year gen 3's from 96-99 or was it only certain years? were there any other major problems to mention?? And how do the trannies hold up on the gen 3's. I've replaced them in my gen 2 and i know there wern't the best. Also does anyone know of any other differences on appearnece bewteen the 96-98 versions and the 99 except the rims and the silver surround around the guages???

thanks

Trannies are said to be an issue, but I've never had a problem. Some say it's just a matter of time, but who knows? shrug

As far as differences, there are few. Ford began decontenting the SHO around '98 I believe. The 96 didn't have front door map pockets but had an amber rear turn sginal, the shift selector indicator on the instrument cluster and I think that's about it. The front turn signals are clear with an amber bulb in the 98-99's I believe while the 96-97's are amber.

You an always paint the bezel, I did and it's looks great, takes about 5 minutes to remove and install combined.

Aside from the cam situation, it would appear to me that the V8 doesn't need as muct attention as the 6. I could be wrong, but there is no " 60K " service needed for it. I think once the cams are welded the car would be just fine, I feel tat they are a bit more solid than the older cars and much nicer cruisers.
