will it work with a aftermarket deck? I just installed a alpine cda 9805.

The Plan: a pair of mb quart pce 213 5.25 components in the front and a matching pair in the back for rear fill. I am a huge boston acoustics fan but it looks like the pro's are a bit to deep for the doors. alpine offers a center channel that fits right into a din slot witch I would replace my cup holders with. jl audio 10w6 for the sub and a jl audio 5/500 to power it. if I remember right audio control offers a center channel amp/processor but I haven't been able to find one... any thoughts or substitutes?

Its a Sony changer. Being that it is so old chances are that it will not be compatible with anyting modern though.

it doesnt matter how old it is...the changer would work with a cassete player that's twenty years old, because its an fm modulator, it just taps into a certain frequency. as long as its hooked up right it will work fine.

Ive talked to Crutchfield (a very reputable audio site, www.crutchfield.com) about this, and they said because its original equipment plugging into original equipment, it wouldnt work by just plugging and playing.

that is the same one I have ^^^^ I understand that it's a fm modulator, but the problem is that when I try to tune in with my new deck (Alpine CDA 9805), I get no signal... at any frequency (I tried every single one!) I thought it was very odd. the changer powers up just like it used to, commander works, switches discs and shows up to be playing just like normal but no sound. with the factory deck it seemed to tune into EVERY station when it was powered up and playing, witch also seemed odd. this is a ford 10 disc 100%, not sure if it was a option for a 1992 mtx or not but it shouldn't matter since it's a FM modulator.... any ideas?

EDIT: I should also mention that this is the same changer in the pic above, my deck did not control it and I don't recall any unidentified wires in the rear during installation. (is there an in line antenna for the modulator?)

yeah. the gen2s came with a 10 disc option only. it wasn't an official taurus option like the jbl/premium sound choice but rather a dealer option. the dealer would install it on site by request or if they felt it gave the car an extra feature to tag on the window sticker. it is an fm modulator but there was also an additional cable that patched into the back of the cassette player if i remember correctly. i can't remember if it was attached to the antenna cable or if it looked like the one that connected the slave cd since i got rid of mine awhile ago. there definitely was another cable tho. check around your wiring in the dash to see if you can find a loose plug.

I had a Ford 10 disc changer in my car for at least a year. It was not FM modulated, it worked just like the slave CD players. When you pressed play on the changer remote the tape deck would display "CD" just like the slave CD player.

if you got those SL-60's in there, the pro50 would fit no problem. but the SL series isn't in the pro line up. however they are a bit deaper than the pro's

SL-60 = 2-7/16"

PRO50 = 2-5/16"

PRO60 = 2-3/8"

I had some bad info on the depth before I guess. after looking it up I think this is the way im going. maybe I was thinking of the Z series

did you have to cut anything to get the 6-1/2's in the door? I searched this forum and found many different opinions on what will or will not fit. after reading alot of confliting reports I found that alot of people said the same thing. the car came with a actuall 6" in the door but most 5-1/4's would drop right in and some 6-1/2's would fit with a little cutting. based on that I was going to go with 5-1/4' but if its not that much work, 6-1/2's would be great.

I didn't get to the CD changer today, I was busy returning the wrong radiator fan motors. (are any two SHO's the same?) :bonk:

Yep, it exactly like the slave CD player to tape deck connection.

My 6 1/2" fit just fine in the doors. I've got the tweeter mounted in the sail panel, and the speaker mounted to the factory bracket and stuck in the factory hole. No issues at all, and they sound freaking spectacular. If it wasn't raining, threatening snow, I'd go out, rip my door apart and show pics.

I've got my crossover mounted to the door skin on the other side of the window...just routed the wires around, stuck that puppy on with double-sided tape and no probls.
