Doing some pre-work; first time I've needed to work on the cluster, and write-ups I found on here are for Gen 1 cars, so some uncertainty about Gen 2. Does the cluster have to be removed from the dash to change the tach? Can the tach be changed, or does the whole cluster need to be swapped? Does the speedo cable have to be disconnected from the cluster, or after disconnecting the mid-point joint under the hood, can the stub be pulled through the firewall with the cluster?

the whole cluster must come out to disassemble it. the speedo cable needs disconnected from the back of the cluster - it has a plastic clip that you push on / squeeze to allow it to disconnect.
