Alright, my cd player only works 10 percent of the time. any otehr time, ill put a cd in, and it will click repetitivly, and it wont give me my CD back when i try to take it out. Once in a while, tho, the CD will actually play in the CD player. Anyone else have similar probalums, or a fix?

a simple fix would be to buy a aftermarket cd player. you know the factory cd player is about 11 years old, and uses ancient technology.

Or you could fix it by taking the top off and looking for the small board that under the top cover. Unscrew the board and flip it over. There are 2 small microswitches, when they get dirty thy cause the clicking death that your CD player has. Put the CD player on its side so the board will lay flat on a table (so you wont get more crap inside the unit) and spray the crap out of the 2 switches with contact cleaner. It may take several cleanings to get them working well. You should also work the switchel by hand while they are wet with contact cleaner to help "scrub" the contacts. When you put it back together you will need to hode the plungers in on switches for the board to fit back into place. DON'T force it, just make sure to see how it was put together before you take it appart. I bought a "broken" CD player off eBay for almost nothing and fixed it this way. If you need more help with it, just ask.

hmm, i cleaned the little switches off, put it back togethor, and put it back in the car, but when i turn the radio on, it will try to read the CD for maybe 10 seconds, switch to the radio, switch back to the cd, etc.

ok, i figured it out, if you had a cd in there when you took it apart, make sure you flip that bigger switch before puttting it back togethor and hold the little metal thingies to keep the CD from coming out back, and take the cd out, otherwise, the thing wont work.

Thanks alot for the help, it works perfect now!

I have the same problem  . I just got this car and the CD player only works half the time. I was wondering if anyone could explain to me how to take the CD player out of the consol. I would really apreciate it. Sorry for the dumb question.

There are four holes in each corner of the CD player. Simply insert 4 objects..I used 4 small phillips screw drivers...some have used bent hangers... Insert four objects into those holes as far as they can go. That will release the CD player and it should pop free, then simply wiggle it out..and unplug it.

My first car was a Taurus GL (good luck) and I took my factory tape deck out with a hammer and a screw driver, if you dont mind the mess, its the most effective way. BANG BANG BANG! Break it right out of there, just in case you dont have your "4 objects" :D

Detenator:
Where did you learn how to do all that?
a lot of Ford, Mercury, and Lincoln automobiles are like that...from taurii, to sables, to continentals, to F-150's....Im not saying all of them are, but many are.
