You have to put your foot on the brake, and some kind of pressure / electrical system switch allows you to depress the push button. Sometimes it takes more pressure than usual to depress the button on the shifter.
All cars have this system, so it is not a SHO issue, and should be able to be diagnosed by the corner garage if it doesn't work out for you.
My Mustang does the same thing and in my case, I have my foot on the brake (not super hard, just normal) before I turn on the key, where I find the pedal to be rock hard, and it works much better. It gets worse in the cold weather, but I have not had to replace anything.

there is an interlock from the brake pedal to the shifter to allow you to shift out of park. If you take off the console cover (and maybe the console) you can see the little cable attach to the shifter.

On my red 94, that interlock failed, so it was stuck in Park. I took off the console and disconnected the end of the cable at the shifter, so that I could shift it at any time. That is how shifters were for 40 years before the regulators decided we were too stupid to trust to put our foot on the brake before shifting out of Park. I ran it that way for years without issue. My thought is that an interlock that prevents you from moving your vehicle when it fails is a safety hazard...

Check your BOO (Brake On/Off) switch. Wouldn't be surprised if your brake lights were malfunctioning at the same time that you cannot shift out of park.
