This is frustrating me so much, i finily saved up and bought the car i have always wanted. a red SHO. 94'....
Any ways the clutch and shifter works fine for about a mile, then the shifter gets tight and locks up. I cant put the damn thing in any gear. Unless i turn of the car then put i in 1st. then start it again. I got new bushing put in it. worked for about 1 month. I would also like to know if its normail for the cluch to catch High. as soon as i bring it out (about a half inch from the floor) it catches gear. DO ALL THE SHOWS CATCH SO HIGH?. I highly dought its the cluch needs 2 be replaced. If any one have heard of this problem before. Contact me asap> headbang

It's SHO...Super High Output. Not "show".

Wish I could help with your clutch questions.

Good luck.

Your description of the clutch "locking up" doesn't make much sense to me. Clutches are supposed to lock the flywheel to the transaxle input shaft. If you mean that you can't shift between gears that the shifter cannot be moved into the various gates, that would be described as difficult shifting or ineffective clutch. Since you described that the clutch is not disengaging with much throw (too close to the floor), it could be either the clutch cable needs adjusting or the throwout bearing and pressure plate components of the clutch are on their last legs.

To adjust the clutch cable's tension, simply pull upward on the clutch pedal with a hand or foot using about 10 pounds of force. If you hear a "click" or two, the ratchet meachanism on the clutch pedal removed some slack from the cable. The owner's manual states that this should be done at least every 5,000 miles.

If that doesn't help, I'll ask if the clutch pedal motion is smooth or is there any roughness, grinding or popping as you depress the pedal. This symptom, along with the inability to uncouple the engine and flywheel from the transaxle, indicate that the clutch disk, pressure plate and throwout bearing (a clutch kit) require replacement.

I see that you have created three different posts on this same topic. One would be appropriate. You are new here so I will let you know how to remove the other two. Single left click on the edit icon at teh top of your post in each of those topics. The edit icon is the pencil on paper that is the second from the right icon, to the left of the "quote" icon. After selecting edit, select the check box by the "Delete Post" option near the top of your post. Then select the "Edit Post" button at the bottom of the white text box. Please do this to remove the duplicate posts.

The ratchet mechanism on the clutch pedal should be inspected to ensure that it is properly tensioning the cable. The cable can be made slack by propping the pedal up with a 7" long something wedged under it. You can than remove the cable end from the transaxle release lever on the top of the transaxle, directly below the air intake hose between the air filter box and the throttle body. Exercise the release lever to sure that it is moving freely. Reattach the cable end and remove the prop from under the pedal. Press the pedal several times and then pull upwards to set the tension. Do this pedal press and lift sequence a few times to make sure the cable has been properly tensioned. If this doesn't help, the throwout bearing and/or pressure plate may be faulty or worn.

NY for now, WY for real
I drove my car a year and a half without any hints or indicators about problems w/ the tranny or clutch. Then I do some work on the front of the engine for 2 days, put it back together, and get the same stuff that you are right now.

I ordered a clutch kit and am putting it in the first week of November. Living overseas I can't just run down to the parts store so I probably ordered too many parts for the problem, but hopefully I'll be able to fix it.

Anyway, I'll let you know what was wrong with mine as soon as I can get it all apart and figured out....
