I have a 1994 SHO-MTX that started leaking gas about a month ago. It is dripping, slowly, from almost directly under the filler spout. I thought I found the leak....a small (dime-sized) plug near the bottom right-rear corner of the tank. I used a Permatex tank sealant patch kit to re-plug it but it still drips. I don't have a lift or a good enough jack to get the car up high enough for me to get under it to check it out. I can, however, get my arm up under and high enough to feel around. I don't FEEL any liquids.
I've checked this and other forums and keep hearing about the fuel vapor canister being saturated. Would that cause actual drips or just a strong odor?
What WAS in that corner? It looks like the previous owner plugged it with Liquid-steel.
The last vehicle I had that I could successfully work on was a '72 Bronco, so I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. I'm just not sure where to start looking on this. In all other respects, the car runs great even with 250K miles.
Is it time to look for a good repair shop?
update: After applying the Permatex patch, this morning it WASN'T dripping gas. I drove, at the the MOST a mile, and it's dripping. I loosened the gas cap (just a thought) and there was a pressure build-up. It's like 30 degrees outside and I only drove a few blocks!!! Do I have a pressure RELEASE problem? Again, I checked this morning BEFORE I started it up and NO drips!
