I have an 89 with a bit of a problem. On the rear of the fuse panel, there is a wire running from the 30amp blower motor fuse to something else. Currently the wire is connected to a 8.25amp circuit breaker. The blower motor works with this setup, but after about 10 minutes with the fan full-on I can smell the wire burning (melting). I've removed the wire, and the blower system doesn't work at all. Someone has told me the setup doesn't sound stock... Does anyone know if this is the right setup?? I've tried replacing the wire with a 10 gauge (10 gauge = 30 amp) but it still burns up. Could the wire running from the 30amp fuse possibly need to be connected elsewhere or does something else need attention? Any input is greatly appreciated... Happy SHO-ing!

According to the 89 EVTM book. Fuse 9,,30 amp, hot in run, sends power on a BR/O wire directly to the blower motor. The current leaves the motor on O/R wire and goes to the Blower Motor Speed Controller. That uses signals from the electronic temp controller to allow varing amounts of current to go to ground. That varies the blower speed. I would guess that you have a bad Blower Motor Speed Controller and someone may have tried to wire around it. Only a guess though, can't see all the wires from here!!

I cannot find any 8.25 A CB in the EVTM on this circuit. It must have been an add-on by a PO.

Disconnect it and see if your high current draw remains. Also, see what now doesn't work so you can find a better source of power for that accessory.

As Perry said, F9 supplies the blower motor. The return line from the motor runs either through the BSC or the manual fan speed switch/resistor module depending on whether you have manual or auto climate control - you did not specify.

If the blower runs on high speed and continues to cook the wire, it is pulling too much current and the motor should be replaced along with any previously cooked wiring.
