My alternator isn't holding any charge right now even though the battery light isn't on. It WAS on, but that was when the I replaced the alternator and it still didn't hold a charge, so I'm assuming that one of the links went out, but needless to say I have never done this job before, and have no clue where these things are. Any pointers? Thanks!

Actually, before I signed up, I searched and found that post. It is helpful, but it just didn't elborate on the location. Must be because the poster has access to a part locator system, or is just plain smarter than I :)

I know what I need, I just don't know where it's at so that I may replace it. oh

There are three total, two 12ga and one 18ga. The 18 ga comes off the alternator. All go to the end of the engine compartment fuse box. If it were me I would replace them with the blade type **** fuses.

Well dumb me, I'm still somewhat lost.

I would like to test them and see if there is contenuity. Here are some close up clips of the engine back. Would someone mind circling the appropriate wires?

Do these wire just run under the car?

This is a Pic of the 18 gauge wire from the alternator. I didn't know if it was suppose to have that cut out like that.

Unfortunately I can't help you with the locations, but I thought that there were reasons NOT to replace fusable links with other types of fuses? shrug I remember reading it somewhere on the forum.

Fuse links are old school. Used before the development of the **** sized fuses. **** fuses go up to 60A and are a nice convenient sized fuse for that rating. Mega fuses go up over 500A. I have a 250A Mega fuse in line with my battery powering the entire car.

While definitely "old School" what they really are is "cheap School". It cost more to put in a fuse and or a circuit breaker. The fuseable link is made to burn open at a load that will not harm the device or wiring bundle it is meant to protect.
