I noticed gasoline on the fuel line relief valve in the indentation surrounding the rubber seal. It was a small amount, but when I placed my finger near it, the rubber seal just crumbled. When I started the engine, I saw a geyser of gas shooting out the valve.

I assume I need a new one, but I thought I saw once that a new one costs > $100.

I have to drive the car, so I threaded a small sheet metal screw into the opening, it still leaked a little. Then I used some permatex thread sealer. I used very little so none gets into the fuel loop, but with my luck ...

I'm going to find a threaded fastener (perhaps #4 screw or smaller) to seal the hole. I have to drive the car as it is the only one I have. Could this be a "permanent" fix so I don't have to replace the part? I haven't had a release from the valve in 18 years so I'm gambling, if I can't find a used or new valve.

Any advice welcomed.

its a schrader valve like the one in your tire...you should be able to get another one and put it in, well that was before you put a screw in it and thread sealer. could just get another fuel rail from a bone yard.

Well, I actualy identified the wrong part.

The fuel rail pulsation damper was leaking, not the relief valve. This part has a little rubber piece on top of it which smooths out pulsations in the gasoline in the fuel rail.

So when the rubber piece disentegrated, I just got a geyser of gasoline flowing out. That's why I put the screw in. Rock Auto sells this part (I think) and it goes for about $60.

Thanks for helping out.
