I noticed gasoline on the fuel line relief valve in the indentation surrounding the rubber seal. It was a small amount, but when I placed my finger near it, the rubber seal just crumbled. When I started the engine, I saw a geyser of gas shooting out the valve.
I assume I need a new one, but I thought I saw once that a new one costs > $100.
I have to drive the car, so I threaded a small sheet metal screw into the opening, it still leaked a little. Then I used some permatex thread sealer. I used very little so none gets into the fuel loop, but with my luck ...
I'm going to find a threaded fastener (perhaps #4 screw or smaller) to seal the hole. I have to drive the car as it is the only one I have. Could this be a "permanent" fix so I don't have to replace the part? I haven't had a release from the valve in 18 years so I'm gambling, if I can't find a used or new valve.
Any advice welcomed.
