Which is better a stock fuel pump or in line fuel pump? Where do you put inline pumps on SHOs? Can you run both at the same time? Which is the best pump you can get for an SHO?

Just replace the stock one with a higher flow pump, the stock setup is fine. Go to SHOtimes and find the write up on fuel pump replacement, they have a link to Walbro high flow pumps, which I replaced mine with and have been satisfied with.

I just changed my sick stock 65lph pump with a Walbro 190lph one last week. Just follow the writeup here on shoforum and it won't take you long! cheers

If an inline pump is installed downstream of the pump in the tank, you subject the fuel system to the same "single failure" situation as having only the in-tank pump. Since they are positive displacement pumps, you cannot get flow through them unless they are pumping so only one of the two pumps has to fail to disable the system. Also, the flow capacity of the fuel system is only as great as the weakest link.

Install the higher volume pump in the tank in place of the OEM pump. My 155 lph Walbro has been squirting the juice for about 200,000 miles now (knocking on wood :) ).

My check valve is gone in my pump, and I'm getting sick of cranking and cranking to make the car start. I'm replacing with a 190lph one from that place that was just linked above me. I've just gotta find a good functiuioning fuel sender before I place an order. **** 2 birds with one stone, plus I have some rust on the top of my gas tank that I'd like to clean up and coat since I'll be dropping the tank to change both.

Out of curiosity, anyone know if the tanks for an ATX are the same as the tanks for the MTX? I know the pumps are different stock from the factory.

Not unless your stock pump is going out on you & can't supply the needed fuel. Upgrading to a higher-capacity pump will allow for more serious mods in the future, and will also allow the pump to work less (?).

Did you read what Scott said above? If not, go back and read it. You don't want to install a second inline fuel pump. If your pump is bad, replace it with a new unit. The best deal out there is for the 190 l/hr Walbro fuel pump from Auto Performance Engineering http://www.autoperformanceengineering.com/. $87 delivered and included everything you need to do the fuel pump replacement. You want the FPF016 kit. You might want to also replace the fuel return line check valve while you're in there. That's a small dealer only part.

I just replaced my fuel pump this weekend. I bought the 190lph pump from APE.

It came quick and with EVERYTHING.

The only extra part I purchased was the check valve from the dealer which they said was backordered from the MFG. They found me one.

When I turn the key without starting I still get the "gurgling and groaning" sound from the fuel pump area after a drive. New redesigned check valve but still have problem.

I replaced the valve because when I come to a stop and the car is idling I sometimes hear this noise that sounds like a drum "pattering" I know that isn't a real word.. I heard it again today shrug

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott

Every day for the past week and a half I've been even more amazed at how quiet my new fuel pump is (now that I replaced the back seat). The sound you're describing is most likely fuel sloshing back and forth in the tank. In my experience the SHO has the NOISIEST fuel tank of any car I've ever driven. In all other cars I'll never hear fuel sloshing back and forth when coming to a stop. In the SHO it's quite pronounced. It's just the nature of the beast. SHO's have noisy ass fuel tanks.

As far as gurgling from the fuel pump area in KOEO position during the fuel pump prime I had this for about a week also. It went away. Two ideas I have are the rubber on the fuel return line check valve needs a little exposure to fuel to become conditioned. Number 2: perhaps there's a little air hovering in the fuel path that takes a while to purge. Either way it never affected performance and it disappeared after a week or so.
