Fuel Pressure Regulator Upgrade

So I believe my fuel pumps are going out. And want to go a bit overboard with the replacement and put a 255lph pump in. I believe this is going to require an upgrade to the fuel pressure regulator (FPR).
Has anyone done this yet with our Gen3's? I have been looking at the Gen2's, but can tell their setup is a bit different so I don't believe SHONuts will fit directly.

I have found a couple, but it looks like their design may have interference problems with the power steering lines Aeromotive 13102.

I believe there is about 1.5" between the current FPR fuel rail to the PS line. Anyone seen an adapter maybe to move that to another location?

Just looking for idea's rather than needing to fab up a new power steering line. :frown:

Or... Now that I think about it, with little to no sleep... If I just disconnect the reference line off the stock regulator I suppose I wouldn't have to do anything with it and could leave it in place. I don't think it would cause any restrictions or problems. Then I could just get a remote regulator that taps in between the stock hoses and the fuel rail...

E1 already put a pump with a similar power into one and he said it wasn't necessary to replace FPR IIRC...

Correct. Static pressure at idle should remain around 39#. But I don't care if it is 37 1/2# or 40 1/2# as long as it is stable.
With the bigger pump and a good FPR it remained exactly the same, the regulator just let more fuel pass by.
As the engine accelerates and the manifold vacuum decreases, the fuel pressure SHOuld rise into the middle 40's.

Consistency is more important than any one given value. The fuel curves will take care of themselves as long as the regulator isn't bouncing around all crazy all the time.

The fuel pressure a bit low? O2 sensors read lean and injectors adjust.
1 or 2 # this way or that matters not.

I agree totally with E1. O2/Hego working and it will allow the computer to adjust timing or injector lengths to compensate. Though if you try to add or remove more supply(air/throttle) faster than the computer can adjust, you may experience misses and lugging. In my case, I never had performance issues, Short Term and Long Term fuels within spec showing that for the most part there were no mechanical issues. Just annoyed that the fuel was not in spec, with Max pressures at ~37PSI. Drop in pressure wasn't bad with old pump either.

So today I got the stock regulator replaced and pressures went up to ~42psi full open. No noticable change in performance or fuel consumption on the stock tune. I will say that with the cooling temperatures being just about perfect I am getting near perfect performance from the engine, IE) Very little timing removed... Hang on to your FTLs!
