To All My Name Is Joe,, Any Help Would Be Appreciated.1994 Atx 3.2 Here Is The Problem. First Time I Start The Car In The Morning It Takes 5-7 Seconds To Start. After I Turn The Key To Start Twice To Prime It, Yes I Hear The Pump Working But It Seems Like There Is No Fuel In The Rails And after Start Up It Runs -Idling- Very Rough Then Smoothes Out After 5 Or So Sec. Once It Is Warmed Up To Normal Temp The Car Runs Real Good Under No Heavy Throttle But Once I Get Into It I Have Bad Bogging Problems...no Full Power In Other Words...ce Lite Was On So I Scanned It ,egr Code So I Replaced These Parts New..egr Valve ,fpr ,auto Lite Wires,(under Life Time Warranty Anyway) Cut The Access Door Under Seat And Replaced The Pump...cutting The Door Was Easy..air Chisel..took About 2 Mins.when I Replaced The Pump The Strainer Was Off So I Thought .hm This Is The Problem ...but It Was Not ...i Ran The Car With A Fuel Press Guage Holding It With My Left Hand And Got 38 Psi Even When It Was Bogging Down And When I Shut The Car Off It Lost About 20 Psi In 10 Mins So It Is Bleeding Off Some Where ...started The Car Back Up With The Guage Connected And Vac Line Off Of The Fpr Of Course ,,reading @ 38 Psi Then Closed The Fuel Line Off To The Motor And Also Closed Off The Return Line And It Still Bled Off So I Believe It May Be The Damper Next To The Fpr On The Other Side Of The Fuel Rail????????? Do You Know If This Could Be The Problem.i Believe A Leaky Injector Would Make The Exhaust Have Black Smoke 2 @ Start Up.but That Is Not The Case. Any Help Would Be Appreciated ....if You Can Tell Me The Problem I Will Give You A Free Sho Hat Or Shirt .thank You ....joe

I belive if it it bleeding off with the lines cut off than the only place for it to go is through the injectors sound like you've got a bad injector I would pull the spark plugs and see which one is running rich that will tell you which injector is leaking.

Thank you for the info but if the injector was losing fuel into 1 of the cylinders shouldnt I have some smoke when I start the car?

Not always. Also you can check to see if the fpr is leaking into the vacume line they tend to do that when they go bad. Thay usualy leak worse when the engine warms up. If you pull the vacume line off and it smells like fuel or is wet with fuel than it is definatly leaking.

i agree with the bleed off, if you have a fuel pressure gauge hook it up and look at the pressure each time before you start it. i would bet you have a combination of leak down and a slow relay for the pump so when you turn the key it takes a couple secounds for the circuit to close and pump pressure to start. also try turning the key to the on position ,then weight a couple secounds fasten seat belt adjust seat or stereo if you have no patiance then crank her over. if it starts faster than before i would replace the relay first or simply swap it with ac or other relay thats the same...

The fuel pump has a check valve in it that holds fuel pressure up when the vehicle is off. That valve is bad, and it needs a pump.

Classic fuel pump check valve symptoms, or you didnt tighten the hose clamps on the fuel line at the pump. (Stupid assumtion, I know)

Ok, neg terminal off and brand new fuel pump installed & fuel filter again, no different ,but the funny thing was when I went for a test drive the car was bogging down and all of the sudden it took off like a SHO should and the battery lite on the dash kicked on with the CE lite and it bogged again so I went back to the shop and there was fluid from the battery on the top of the battery ? I checked to make sure the terminal was tight and it was so I am still stumped but I am starting to think it is more of a electrical current problem now ...???any ideas

Ok well I talk to a couple of guys if your fuel is not going into the cylenders than your F.P.R. is bad. I was told Ford uses a T in the fuel lines to return fuel pressure back to the tank and bypass the pump clamping off the lines wont stop the fuel from bleeding back to the tank. They all told me that the fpr is bad. I don't know what the spec is for pressur but 38psi sounds low so fpr fits the crime.

Well, erm, when my 95 had this problem, I replaced the fuel pump with a Walbro, since I got tired of Auto Zone or Advanced Auto parts being bad right out the box. I also replaced my sending unit at the same time with a spare I had sitting around and that took care of it.

soon to be SHO tech

I am really running up the mountain , this car is wearing me down.

after the battery lite came on I took it to the place where I bought it and it tested BAd and so did the bench tested alternator, Replaced both of them and also replaced the terminals for the battery, now the car starts easier and really really wants to move out more so then before , but I am beliving that the fuel relay is not giving the pump enough juice for a high end throttle gain, what controls the pressure the pump should be putting out to the engine...not vaccume related ...electric current..relay? computer?coil?

What'd you replace the pump with? OEM stocker or did you go with a Walbro?

The first time my fuel pump took a shit on me, I replaced it 6 times with Auto Zone parts, and another two with an advanced auto pump before I said to **** with it and got a Walbro 155lph...which I still have in my car. I bought it back in 2004 and put it in a different SHO.

Now...when I got my 95, I had the EXACT same problem you're describing. I went through **** and beyond trying to find the problem, and finally called Doug Lewis at FPS, who informed me about the check valve in the sending unit/pickup/whatever you wanna call it. Ironically, about a week later, my fuel pump took a shit, so I took the fuel pump and sending unit from my old 92 (which was still in the garage for some reason) and threw it in....and guess what? No more starting problems.

So I reiterate....replace your sending unit.
