I did a search but couldnt find a definitive answer. At least one that made sense to me.

Wednesday night I stopped at the gas station to get a soda. Came out and started the car, went to pull out of the station and as soon as i tipped in the gas the car died. I rolled it back and tried starting it a little while later thinking maybe my crank sensor was going out. Well after 1.5 hours, i realized the fuel pump wasnt kicking on.

Went into the gas station, grabbed some napkins, went back out and cranked the car. Then i pushed the shraeder valve open and all that came out was fizzy, foamy fuel much like a shaken up soda. No surprise.

Well i went last night to trailer it home and when i got in to move it, i tried starting it for the **** of it and sure as ****, it started.

Anyways, i just ran the codes and came up with them in this order: 21,24,21,24,1,66,66.

Now anyone have any idea why it would be throwing some codes twice? Im puzzled now because i looked them up in the code reader book and everything was related to the MAF, IAT, and ECT sensor-either out of range or below minimum. And i dont know about the one. They codes dont go that low. :bonk: I dont see how any of those would cause the fuel pump to not kick on.

Thanks for any help you guys can give me. :thumb:

First, about the codes. If you read about how the codes are displayed it would tell you that the hard fault codes are displayed twice, then a 5 second pause, a single separator flash, another 5 second pause then the memory codes twice. Your hard faults were 21 (ECT out of self-test range) and 24 (ACT out of self-test range) and the memory code was 66 (MAF sensor input is less than minimum voltag).

The 21 could have been due to the engine not being within the normal operating temperature range. The 24 could happen for air temperatures below approximately 50F. The 66 says that either your MAF is not connected properly (or was disconnected with the ignition ON at some time - this was a memory code) or the MAF electronics are faulty.

Clear the codes by running the test again and pulling the jumper when the codes are flashing. Then retest after starting the engine. If teh code reappeards then there is a problem with the MAF.

Now, about the fuel pump not running. The scenario you described with the pump running only intermittently sounds like a possible failing fuel pump. See this as an opportunity to replace it with a higher volume pump (155 LPH) to extend the time until the next pump is required.

It could also be a faulty fuel pump relay in the CCRM. If the pump fails to prime when turning the key, have a second person turn the ignition to START while you tap the black box under the black plastic panel at the top of the driver side of the radiator. If you can get the pump to run and engine to start in that manner, your CCRM is suspect.

Thank you very much. Im glad you made sense of the codes for me. I got the code reader used and some of the instruction pages were missing. I looked for an answer about that and obviously couldnt find it. Also thanks with some pointers on the ccrm. Wasnt to sure on how to go about checking it. And yes, definately a 155 at least. At 75 bucks, why not.
