Hi I'm looking to buy a 1993 ATX Taurus SHO out of state with 144k on it. The problem the owner says it has is a coolant leak & steam coming from the passenger side front of the engine. He says he has not looked into it and does not know the problem plus the car has not been driven in a year but besides the leak it ran fine before he let it sit. He also said he replaced the radiator and water pump last year.

I know it could be many things, but is that a common leak in that area and could it be as easy as a leaking hose? Is the car worth $500.00 with a decent leather interior and the usual rust in the quarter panels?

If it were the water pump wouldn't the car overheat or cause the majority of the coolant to come out?

Coolant drip is one thing; steam means a pretty notable leak, but should be easy to locate where it is coming from too. Ask him more questions; did he do the radiator and water pump himself or have a shop do it to try to cure the leak problem and it did not ? Might be as simple as a hose, but start it up and drive it before aything. I would not buy any SHO that I cannot test drive, as there could be a myriad of other problems you won't know about without test driving it, and fixing these cars can easily turn into a money pit.
