Looks like I am going to have to tackle my front main soon. Was going to do it when I did my clutch, but couldn't get the crank bolt off. Now, having replaced valve cover grommets, and resealing the oil pan, my front main has started to leak with a vengeance, and its trashing the parking lot in my condo.

So my question is, once I get the crank bolt off, how likely am I going to need a puller to get the harmonic balancer pulley off, and is the timing sprocket hard to get off as well, or should it just slide off?

Just trying to tool up for the job. Could a 3 prong gear puller work on the harmonic balancer and / or timing sprocket ? Any specific tool suggestions before I tear into this and get stranded?
Is there bolt holes for a puller for the harmonic balancer, and if so anyone recall the thread size and pitch?

You will need a puller for sure. Harmonic balancer puller or you can get a steering wheel puller to work and most likely you will need it for the cam gear too. I think there is some info on pulling the front apart on the phoenix sho project website under front 60k in I remember corectly.

you will most likely need a puller, but not for sure. of all the SHOs I've worked on, about 25% had the crank pulley and sprocket that you could pull off by hand. some of them were so tight that it was difficult even with a puller. I would get the 2-prong puller, and thread the bolts into the pulley/sprocket like you are supposed to. that way you don't have to worry about damage to the pulley if its tight.

You can pick up a damper puller as a loaner from AutoZone or O'Reilly's or your local auto parts store or invest in your own for about $10.
